Took this in Winter 2020. Prof seems motherly in a way which is nice, but it didnt feel like she actually taught. It was more of us teaching ourselves and then coming to class to do problems from the textbook together. Would have been nice if she taught/explained first and walked through problems with us since this didnt feel like an intro

Best prof! She really wants her students to succeed and makes sure you're prepared for all tests and assignments. No trick questions or surprises with her. Extremely helpful and her notes are great to study. Definitely take her.

Shes a very nice and funny prof but is almost to smart to teach an intro course. She lectures very quickly so to understand whats going on you need to read and practice in the textbook. Online assignments are easy to get 100% on but not very helpful. Overall average class. Be prepared to teach yourself.

Comment:

Lightstone genuinely cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She uses humor and is engaging. She solves book questions in class, but reading the text is a must to understand the concepts. Uses online assignments, easy to get 100% on. The final exam is streamlined across the sections, and hard in comparison to the rest of the course.

Comment:

Prof Lightstone is a gem! All tested material is completely fair and something you've seen before. Reading the whole book is unnecessary because you wont remember the info but you'll need to have it for the tests (open book). I did find the quizzes to be kind of on the difficult side, but overall she is a great prof.

Brilliant Professor! She is so nice and she really cares about her students! You will be lucky to have her as a prof. She gives out hands every class so it is easy to make notes. She uses clickers so you get participation that way but also is a good way to understand your knowledge. The textbook is a must!!!!

Comment:

Karen is one of the smartest professors at SMU - that being said she, she often flies through important content because she sees it as easy. In many cases she wasn't able to make her examples clear because she was too smart to dumb them down for the students. I have a 4.0 in accounting and struggled for an A- in this course.

Comment:

Great professor like most students have mentioned. Accounting can be a tough class but the amount of examples done in class and the use of the clickers forces you to follow along and keep up with the material. Dr Lightstone is clearly passionate about accounting and it makes it a lot more enjoyable for the students.

this course is fun when you know how to do your own tax return, but her final was odd. i did worse than i did than midterm and she told me to not worry, and both open book. final is logically, and midterm is number. prof funny, but sarcastic as heck, kinda ruins her niceness. not very approachable in office. dont like karen

Lightstone was awesome. She explained the material well and went over lots of examples. Her class was fun and engaging. I always enjoyed going. She wants her students to succeed, and it shows with the class marks. She is one of the best profs at SMU. You will learn a lot with her.

Wonderful prof, very helpful.. Makes accounting understandable and bearable. Gives you plenty of info about whats on the midterms and exams, and she makes them :) Definitely reccommend, especially if accountings not your thing.

I took financial ACCT 3 years ago and got very poor mark from it. Dr. Lightstone is an interactive teacher, she is pretty clear of what she wants and you know what to expect from her assignment and exams. Hold on the the KEY concepts, ATTEND classes, you will be fine. This course is mixed of decision (judgment) making and simple math. I enjoyed it
