Always available to help when needed. Ive take 5 classes with him and hes always been super fair in impartial when it comes to grading and even goes as far as to grade exams and some assignments blindly without knowing who the student is to ensure this. One of the best professors Ive ever had at SCSU overall and a great mentor/advisor.

Professor Buterbaugh continued to write on my papers see me to discuss. After being given several Cs, and declining to meet with him; I brought the papers to the head of the dept. who said they were As. After letting a male student copy me, he received an A. I received a C. Come to find out, this was happening to several female students in class.

Homework is short-essay, one assigned to every day of the semester but you only have to do a portion of them. Can be a picky grader but its a genuinely interesting class.

One of the best professors I've had at SCSU so far. Lectures were always interesting and engaging; I never wanted to skip class for fear of missing out on something. Writing heavy course with nightly homework, but if you do the work you'll be totally prepared for the exams. He's very knowledgeable and always willing to help if you have questions!

He gives you plenty of opportunities to be successful, don't take them for granted. He assigns 28 reading responses and requires you to do 15 of them. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU ONLY HAVE 15 PAPERS LEFT! Doing the papers will help you on tests as well. Once I figured this out I did really well but it took me a while. Learn from my mistakes! Great class!

Tough course, but my favorite so far. 4 exams, pretty difficult but remember the material and study. Do not have to do all 28 hws, takes your best 15 or so. class is all discussion about the reading & QOD; do not sit bored, the class is very engaging. Amazing material learned but if your'e lazy stay away, lots of work but it is interesting

Buterbaugh is SO tough. This is the first class I have felt challenged in. Do not take this class if you hate writing, as there is nightly homework writing at least a page. (This should really be a 'W' course.) His tests are extremely difficult, and he is a meticulous grader. SLACKERS- THIS IS BY NO MEANS AN EASY A! (Or B or even C).

Great teacher, he gives a lot of HW. If you don't read or use your textbook you wont pass. He is ready to help you. If you miss it will be harder to catch up. Try to pay attention since it is necessary if you want to know the upcoming assignments. I would recommend to many students. If you don't like HW or doing work don't join. Great teacher. :)

The class is a lot of work but you'll learn a lot. The reading material is really interesting. There's a lot of reading and writing but it's worth it. He is really nice, helpful, and knowledgeable about the subject. The exams are pretty tough because it is all essay and short answer questions but if you read and study the terms list you'll be ok.

I was really uncertain coming into a class about war since it is not my favorite subject. However, Buterbaugh made the material interesting. The exams are difficult, and you really need to be prepared for them. If you do the reading and come to class, you will do fine. The lectures are discussion based and are really interesting. Great class!

2008 MS in PSC from SCSU followed by current career as a Dept of State Diplomatic Security Special Agent. I've since served tours in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Peru, and Wash DC. Buterbaugh is one of the best teachers I've ever had, period. If you want to learn, take as many classes with him as you can - it will serve you well down the line. RLTW!

Best professor I've had at Southern. I'm a nursing student and am taking another poli sci class because of how amazing this professor is. Not an easy class and some of the readings are difficult and confusing but it is so rewarding. He is willing to clarify any information and is always available during his office hours.

Best class I've ever taken at SCSU and best professor I've ever had. There was a lot of reading and assignments but he gave you options so you didn't have to do every single one. Attendance wasn't mandatory but you definitely need to show up to pass the tests. I never had an issue going to class though, amazing discussions.

Amazing professor. Take him if you have interest in political science or are considering it. It just that he focuses mainly on the realist perspective. Doesn't give importance to a variety of perspectives besides realism.

Probably one of, if not the smartest prof. at SCSU. TOUGH GRADER, but if you want to learn, this is guy to teach you. I loved the classes I took with Buterbaugh. He's very humble and has a lot of humility (outwardly) but knows in his head how smart he is.
