Had him for a late class. Great memories around then, I dreaded it at first since it ended at 10:10 PM, but he kept things interesting. I was scared because I wanted my really personal screenplay to be good despite emotional blocks, but he was understanding of other students and me having assignment and even attendance issues, which was his thing.

He was very abusive to me and a couple of my fellow students when I was in film school a few years ago. He is obviously not a happy person, but it is not ok to take it out on your students. I see some people on this site defending him, and that's great if some people had a good experience, but don't invalidate the experiences of others.

He is a good professor, and the course I took with him, Thesis Film: Screenplay allows him to show that. It was a late class, but he kept things interesting, had a few amusing anecdotes, and he was understanding of certain situations, including if you basically needed to be absent, or if you needed to submit an assignment late. He is a nice person.

Not a very sympathetic person. Also very manipulative. Not to mention the fact that he has a huge ego and doesn't know too much about the subjects he teaches, especially editing.

I took screenwriting with him last year and I was shocked to see so many nasty reviews. Yes, he's harsh, but it's better than being babied. He's no more of a jerk than most directors you film students want to work for. So use it to build your character, and stop getting so offended. He insulted my papers but I took it with a grain of salt.

Worst professor I have ever had. He does not care about his students. He tries to intimidate everyone so instead of concentrating on our work, we're busy panicking instead.

I had him for Qualifying Screenplay. The number of assignments are intense, but never more than you can handle if your primary focus is writing. It all helps to develop your story, which he is more than willing to go out of his way to help with at any time. A nice man with valid opinions, and a class which is far from boring.

Great teacher. An honest guy with good opinions. Always stayed extra to help me and everyone else with their film. We all had fun with him, spoke to us like we're on his level, and didn't talk down to us. Refreshing to have a good teacher in this department. thanks mark!

I've just taken him and there wasn't a week where I was happy with the movie I was about to make. I've gotten a good grade but i felt like crap all semester. All i can say is that I'm glad it's over, because his lectures are irrelevant and always somehow turn into him boasting about his achievements. "I digress." Your a professor, you achieved 0

I loved him! he was very helpful and gave good feed back, there were those in my class who had issues with him but that was because they could not handle having their films critiqued. He is honest and some people cant fathom that their work could use improvement but is that not what were in school for? Take him, but not if you have a big ego!

In all fairness (and honesty), Mark knows his****, just relays the information in his own weird coded language. Once you crack it, you find out that he has much to offer in the digital medium. Like all professors, you take what they say with a grain of salt -- I'll tell you to do the same with good ol' Mark.

He's always off on a tangents when explaining a point. Otherwise he's very cool and he's okay in my book. Take him but be warned: his assignments are long and thorough but he's a good professor and he's had the experience so that helps if you have your side projects. Take him anyway you'll prefer it.

There's a problem when a prof is teaching you how to use a camera, and it takes him 6 hours to find out where the f-stop meter is. I must say, his stories were amusing, but in regard to actually teaching, he didn't have much of anything to give.
