NO Homework's, attendance not mandatory. Grades on 3 quizzes and final exam. All MCQ with limited time. One extra credit paper 5 points added to ur final exam not grade. The course itself is good, u can learn a lot but the prof makes exams tough and no curve at the end. After college went remote prof just posted slides online.

Nice professor, just wished he gave more things to grade than just exams that only had 25 questions on them. Gives 3 exams (drops lowest, all multiple choice) and a final. Also gives extra credit that adds 5 points to your final. Gives you the option to take a 50 or 100 multiple choice final. The 2 exams are 60% and final is 40% of your grade.

I really liked this class. Lectures were cool if you're interested in biology or earth/enviro science. Lots of great info and he sprinkles in interesting stories from his own travels, too. Really fascinating. Four pretty easy quizzes (he drops the lowest grade), one final, all are multiple choice. Lots of opportunities for easy extra credit, too!

Fantastic sense of humor! Extremely intelligent and educated, with a very diverse background (check his website!). I wish I have taken more of his classes, he is so pleasant to be around. Unlike in Hirsch's class, there is a clear possibility of getting an A, if you work for it (I know we definitely had more than 7 A's in my class).

sloppy hand writing, silly jokes and the test is not completely covered by the quizzes and test. Damn I study to get a D, man this suck. I dont say he's bad but he is hard and if you're an A gpa student, you are risking your grades here. To make matters worst I have a hearing problem and cannot hear him clearly. Also he has alot of fill in on his t

Charismatic teacher but not worth the risk to your grade. His tests are on obscure vocabulary not covered in class-all but one person failed. He forgot to ever assign a paper except on his website then would not take late papers. And he doesn't actually teach HOW to analyze film but expects you to have learned it from watching movies.

To say he knows his stuff would be an understatement. The jokes get a bit stale after a while, but he's still really interesting to listen to. Some of the films he shows are cheesy (The Lady in the Lake... bleh) but most are a lot of fun. The papers can be tough, because he really expects excellence, so do the two drafts like he tells you to.

He only gave about three quizzes which were easy, that is if you follow what he says in class. The only thing that made this class hard was the final paper, he expected us to know way too much! All in all, I recommend him, you will never be bored in this class unless he shows 2001: A Space Odyssey. He also loves to tell jokes!

Very intelligent, intersting to listen to. I suggest you study very hard for two quizes. his handwriting is so not clear, you have to come up to him and ask what he wrote on your paper. As a grader he is hard, he takes this class not as introduction but rather as advanced course. His movies selection is excellent.

The guy is a genius and is hilarious, but the work is hard. The essays he assigned, in my opinion are not appropriate for an introductory film class (like comparing a single frame of a movie to a painting). The class was very technical. Good choice of films, but you can watch classic films anywhere. I'd take someone else for Film I.

A smart teacher on film and the world in general. It's always a pleasure to discuss films with him. We never used the book. Anything we needed was on his website or written in class. The film analysis aspects of the 2 papers + final that he gives are too hard (I'm an A average student who got a B+ in his class). It was still an interesting class.

This is one of those professers that love to hear themselves speak. Seems to be knowledgable in many areas so he trails off into useless facts very easily. Very sarcastic, a real joker. So far he only assigned 2 papers, I think thats all he will do. I recommend him.
