The most uninspiring, uninteresting teacher I've ever had. Terrible lectures, terrible class. All she does is fly through a PowerPoint. Had me reconsidering my major

You don't need the book if you take the notes in class, which are next to impossible since she skims through an essay length of notes per slide, so take pictures of her slides because her powerpoints that she posts online are sometimes incomplete compared to what she showed in class. Be sure to print the study guide before class to take notes.

Comment:

While Mrs. Hockett knows a lot about psychology, her teaching skills are extremely lack luster. Technology confuses her, even simple functions like exiting full screen. She finds the white board that is least visible and chooses to write on that one and only that one. Would not take again.

Would not recommend this terrible teacher. She's nice but doesnt really know how to teach, just reads off a very detailed powerpoint straight from the book but that's all she does. Hard to stay awake and also does not know how to answer questions. Do not take her especially if you major in psych, you may change your mind.

Comment:

Mrs Hocket is a nice person, but unfortunately she needs to improve a lot on her teaching. Her work as a professor probably comes last in a list of priorities. That being said she has to be the most unmotivated instructor. Learning the material isn't hard but you will find it extremely difficult when test have ambiguous short answer questions.

Flies through her detailed powerpoints, you will not be able to write down important information. Puts up maybe about 5 slides from her 30 slide powerpoints with useless information. Assignments are useless to actually learning anything, you want to pass her class you'll pretty much have to memorize the DSM and read the book like crazy.

Currently taking Abnormal Psychology, she is a terrible teacher. She just rushes through her powerpoints and doesn't give enough time to write what is needed. She is terrible at answering questions and is simply an awful teacher. Her assignments are useless and I actually considered changing majors because of how boring she teaches psychology.

Mary is a nice teacher and brings in food sometimes, however, if you are a psych major do not take her please, She is super boring, her lectures are long she reads word for word off her power point which are big chunks from the book. She is super nice but do not take her.

I dread going to this class. She puts the entire book on the powerpoint and reads directly from it. The first month of class I wanted to pull my hair out, still do. We have had three papers on the same subjects, she just words the questions differently. Waste of my time. She also does not take control of her class when they're being noisy.

Took her for Abnormal Psych. She baked us cookies often and brought us snacks. Very nice teacher, but put way too much info on her powerpoints and read through them too fast. Print out the study guides from blackboard and use them to fill out notes. You won't be able to follow along with her notes. Read the text on your own if you want an A.

Prof. Hockett does a great job of making the concepts of this class very relatable through case studies and projects. The book assignment and movie for analysis were well-chosen. She works well with students and their situations to make sure they succeed. Very pleasant and well-spoken instructor - glad I took this class with her!

Be a responsible adult. Very good class, got me hooked to Psychology even more! Receiving an A. Very interesting class, helpful to see Abnormal Psychology from someone who works in the field. She's the most boring teacher I've ever had. Her lecture style sucks. It's worse than a freshman giving a presentation. Her only saving grace is that the class is easy, but it's not worth it to hear her drone for an hour.

she is a very nice professor,but i found her class to be so unorganized and uninteresting. She showed no interest in psychology and basically just stands up there reading notes off an unorganized jumbled power point that will confuse you.The amount of time she gives you to study for an exam is minimal and nothing on the test was in the study guide.

She is very friendly and helpful. I didn't find her classes completely incredibly fascinating, but we did do some interesting assignments. The only thing I didn't like about her/her class was that her notes were a little unorganized. It was a little difficult to take notes in class sometimes. She also lost my assignment one time, but she fixed it.

Comment:

She is an amazing teacher that helped me learned better in class! She was very helpful and her class was super easy. Can be a little quiet when giving lectures but other then that very helpful and shows that she cares. I would recommend that anyone that would want to take Psychology should take it with her!
