Geyer-Sensei is super fun and engaging. She makes every moment of lecture count and encourages students to participate and interact with different classmates every day. Be prepared to work at a fast pace and don't let yourself fall too far behind in terms of Kanji and vocabulary.

Japanese is the hardest class you will take at Madison. Geyer sensei seems quite nice, but she graded us the hardest of my three years so far. Attendance and homework are mandatory and longer than previous semesters. Random partners each meeting means you practice more outside your friend group, she expects greatness from everyone daily.

Apparently already speaking Japanese is a prerequisite for this class. Pretty unfair to people that aren't already proficient in the language or who don't avidly watch Japanese television or film. Before taking this class make sure you know all the kanji you have already learned by heart, and then try to add 100 more.

Geyer-sensei is the best Japanese professor I've ever had (and I've had three). I need this language for future goals, and restarted with her because I was having difficulty. Her grammar explanations are usually clear and she allows you enough chances to work on things in lecture (and discussion). Difficult and intensive but well worth it.

Awesome professor, extremely intensive class. Attendance is mandatory and discussions involve a lot of individual talking, so if you don't go to lecture, expect to look like an idiot. Geyer knows everyone's name, regardless of if you've talked to her, and she will call on you in lecture.

Great professor, great class! A lot of work but if you come to class and actually pay attention you'll do fine. She's really funny (funny faces and gestures) and an amazing lecturer.

Very nice person. The class is hard but manageable. Easy to keep up. Have lesson quizzes every week, kanji quizzes every week. Exam after completing 4 lessons. Great introduction to Japanese. Be prepared to study so you do not seem stupid. Geyer is a great teacher and will help you with anything and you will learn a lot.

Very helpful, kind prof. Class is extremely intensive, difficult. Many east Asian exchange students take this class and skew curves because of previous exposure to kanji, and Japanese. The tests are very difficult, almost obscene amount of daily work and 2 quizzes per week mean you will spend 2-3 hours per night on this class. Good class though.

There is no way not to like this woman! The class seems to be tough and moves really quickly, however, it meets 8 times a week, so you have no choice but to learn it. Exams and quizzes are fair, no surprises, just prepare.

She's so cuuuute! I just wanna put her in my pocket. Great teacher, knows everyone's name in a 200 person class (knew my name before I even had her, when I was in EA 124 and EA 123 one year prior is when she first said hi to me in the hall and called me by name.) Very clear and sometimes funny.

Geyer Sensei is energetic, fun, and very helpful. She made Japanese, a very difficult subject, my favorite class of the semester. She requires her students to work hard, but she is an excellent professor!
