Professor Porter-Troupe is an amazing professor. Her passion for the material makes her class very enjoyable. This was my first 8 am course and because of her I looked forward to going to class. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly recommend going to class and taking good notes. It is an interactive class so make sure you do the assign readings

She is one of my favorite professors! She was really understanding when I had to miss for travel; just talk to her beforehand if you know you have to miss class. There's only one 2 page essay and quizzes. Read before class for short story and drama units (it's only 2 plays). The latter half of the semester is poetry so you can read it 10min before.

Attendance is mandatory because there are almost daily reading quizzes and those, the midterm, and final each count for 30%. Everything is short answer, and the essay portion of the midterm and final make sure you use as much of her vocabulary as possible!

Excellent professor! The readings are interesting and discussions are very thought-provoking. If you don't like reading do not take the class. There are tons of minor quizzes, only 5 questions each about the material but easy. Two test, mid-term and final. No essays except on tests. readings fairly short and easy. Awesome teacher.

Professor Porter-Troupe is really passionate about English and being there for her students for them to succeed. Gives quizzes every week, but tells you what will be on it and is directly from notes in class and readings. She can be a bit of a hard grader on papers, but is always there to help you improve. Class discussions are interesting!

I personally do not like her, but overall I wouldn't mind taking her again. She can be rude at times, strict about leaving the room & being on time, & takes off points for spelling. She gives reading quizzes every week, but they are simple so you just have to at least read the spark-notes & you'll do fine. The mid-term & final are hard though.

Honestly, I think there are other better teachers for this class. If you are an English major then you should like her, but if you're not you will probably think she grades hard. She is nice and very helpful, but she expects a lot for the papers that she assigns.

Professor Porter-Troupe is a wonderful professor that I've taken twice so far, for two different classes now. She's really nice and she's extremely knowledgeable about Shakespeare's poetry and tragedies. You just have to read the material, go to class, pay attention, and take notes and you'll do fine. I totally recommend her!

I really liked Ms. Porter-Troupe. You will need the book for the class. She mentions the quizzes beforehand, and she says what you need to read for it. Attendance is mandatory, and she is particular about being on time. She is always willing to help you if your struggling. I would definitely take her class again!

Nice lady but gives entirely too many quizzes. She is helpful if you have any questions. Attendance is mandatory because she takes roll. If you don't read you will fail every quiz (which are almost every class).

Porter-Troupe gives so many quizzes it's borderline crazy. A lot of reading involved if you want to pass the quiz. You will have 4 papers and they are really easy because she grades light on them. Be prepared for a bunch of busy work that she NEVER grades.

The only reason why I choose Mrs. Porter is because I did not want to get stuck with Habib. Great professor, carries on discussions well(eveyone talks), and grades fair. You can pass Shakespeare by reading summaries online and taking notes from them before quizzes, which are on Tuesdays.

I actually really, really loved professor porter-troupe. She was helpful, and so what she took attendance? it's a class you're paying for, she's giving you your moneys worth. We had like 4-5 papers and a final which was so easy i took it in about 20 minutes. She is one of the better teachers i've taken here at ODU. She makes you want to learn.

Attendance is taken and you can not be a minute late. She gives quizzes in almost every class on the chapter readings which are 5 questions with no explanation, so good luck. Extremely hard. I should have listened to people on here. She grades hard. WTS should be your best friend because she gives 5 points! It doesnt matter if you speak up or not.

Don't take the quizzes lightly; they're 5 questions, each worth 20 pts. Always the day you're supposed to have read the material. Come to class prepared and volunteer your opinion, she's understanding and values in class participation. Oh, and don't text, she hates that. Overall nice and worthwhile.

Be prepared to study a lot of poetry, especially in the beginning of the semester. Post-midterm mainly shifts to novels. I liked her as a person, but felt her grading was a little tougher than it could have been. Good professor overall though.

She's a lovely woman who is very interesting when giving a lecture and her grading is pretty fair. I've found I don't agree with her opinions sometimes, but she is never clumsy with her logic and points. Definitely take her class if you want an enjoyable literature experience.

Very nice teacher, wants to help and very smart. Weekly 5 question basic quizzes (drops 2 lowest), midterm and take home final are only grades! Plus most of readings are on SparkNotes. Easy to get a decent grade, make sure you say something at each class. I skipped so many classes and didn't buy book, ended up with a solid B for course!

Very nice lady that is interested in making sure students do well in class. Quizzes almost every other class on reading. They are extremely easy as long as you've read the material. But, hard to get an A on a paper. Gives lots of B's and B+'s
