Comment:

I was dreading taking a speech class, but SPCH 145 with Professor Gehrke was a breeze compared to what I expected. There are 3 major "speeches" (a podcast, short Youtube video, and a short live Zoom call), assignments to prepare for these, a few quizzes, and an exam. Highly recommend him and SPCH 145 for those who don't like public speaking!

Comment:

Prof is super nice guy and very knowledgable!! Always willing to help and gives good grades for solid effort. Rubrics are very clear, it is impossible not to do well if you keep up with due dates. Expect 2-3 assignments a week that take maybe 30-45 mins each. 3 quizzes and 1 final, answers straight out of textbook. I highly recommend this class!

Comment:

Absolutely hate public speaking but I LOVED this class. He was very clear on what he expected and gave great feedback every time. Easy to get in touch with if you need help. Assignments do require some effort but you get to pick what you talk about which makes it enjoyable. Easy A, in my opinion, if youre willing to put in a little effort

A great Professor and an easy A class, if you put in the work. Not only was it an easy A, but I honestly do feel like I learned a lot and am more confident not only publicly speaking but also presenting myself online! Take him!

Dr. Gehrke is hands-down one of the best professors I've had at USC. I regret finding out about him in my senior year. He's very intelligent, conversant on just about any subject you can think of, and more than willing to help outside of class. He's tough when it comes to grading your writing and expects you to perform with excellence.

Comment:

Dr. Gehrke is very inteligent and really fun to listen to. A lot of times in class, he goes off on an interesting tangent, and it's much more interesting than what we were supposed to talk about. You don't need to do the readings but they help when you're writing your 3 speeches and the final paper. Ten out of ten recommend this class!!!

Prof. Gehrke's speech class is so much more than a speech class. He throws you into a group project that gets really intense. It's mostly done by the group and he just oversees. My only complaint is that he doesn't get things done in a timely manner.

We had literally two grades in the honors section of this class. We only have three speeches, and only had to speak for five minutes for each one. Most of the class is centered around a group business plan, on a project you get to design. He is always leaving the city for conferences and canceling class, and there is practically no work involved.

Professor Gehrke is one of the best and most understanding professors I could have ever had! You'll write weekly 1 page papers based on the weekly readings, complete one extended research project, and write one final paper. He's great, and, if you ever need any assistance, he is always willing to help and provide his expertise. He's great!

Dr. Gehrke rambles a bit and this course, by its nature, was kind of unstructured so that it could flow depending on student interest. He is the easiest grader on the planet. He REALLY knows the material and if you have any questions at all (or even want to expand on a topic out of interest) he's there for you.

Great class. The work sounds like it'll be daunting, but it's not. Get him talking about a controversial topic and he'll talk about that rather than boring stuff. Never did a single reading and still got an A. He knows what he's talking about and keeps it pretty interesting.

Beyond a few speeches and one paper, we never actually did anything in this class! It was awesome and very easy to get an A. Whenever I needed help with my papers or speeches, I would go to his office hours and he was the best as helping me figure out the best way to get my point across without losing my "voice"

I've had Mr. Gehrke before, and was happy to have him again. This class had a bit more work to it than others I've taken with him, but most of the work was concentrated at the end of the semester. The work at the end was pretty time intensive,but if you're a good worker you should have no problems. I enjoyed coming to class each time.

I'm a Junior and Professor Gehrke is my favorite professor I've had so far. I had him for two classes, 380 and 387, and he was great in both. He's hilarious and extremely personable. 387 is harder than 380, but in both classes if you come to class and participate you'll do fine. I hope I have the opportunity to take him again.

Applause to Gehrke. Very nice and helpful; a tough grader, but if you give enough effort, you will not fail. Quite intelligent and well-versed in many topics, so don't expect BS-ing to work. Always willing to help at any time, and very flexible. Allowed our class to build our own syllabus.
