Sy Grant was simply one of the best professor I've had in my many years. I've attended USF, USF, UCLA and Sy is at the top of the list.

Sy is a great public speaker. He is very good about translating his success to his students. His class requires you to be vulnerable, but it all pays off tremendously. If you are willing to leave your ego at the door, you'll succeed. He has made a major impact on how I see other speakers. I was in the last class he taught before retiring

Funny guy. Taking Sy's class will result in you becoming close with your peers in the course, as you really don't have a choice in the matter. His personality isn't for everyone, but I doubt you'll get a better instruction on public speaking from anyone else.

YUCK! This class is terrible. He is way too hard on people. And he really loves to talk about his opinions and life choices in a way that is supposed to make other people feel bad for watching television or eating meat. Whatever. Unprofessional. Ridiculous. Unrealistic.

I HATE public speaking, this class made me a nervous wreck. Sy is okay, not fond of his attendance policy. As life does go on outside of his class and things do happen. He thinks he's funnier than he is and it feels like you have to embarass the hell out of yourself to pass this class. Public speaking is horrible enough as it is.

Not too great of an experience. I got the flu one day. I showed up and had to leave prior to my speech because I had a fever and literally felt like I was going to pass out, and it showed. No Mercy on me whatsoever. I failed the speech and received a C in the class. This class would have sucked with any prof. though. It makes you a nervous wreck.

Sy is a great teacher. He makes sure the class is on a personal level with one another so you are comfortable and don't feel judged. Kind of opinionated, but the quizzes are easy (i skimmed the chapters) and the speeches are fun. I would highly recommend (and DO) Sy to anyone who is uncomfortable speaking in front of people.

Sy is a GREAT professor, you have to attend class and he takes points off your final for missing class. He makes the class interesting and really tries to make everyone comfortable. He is a little crazy and set in his ways but no reason to fail his class.

Sy is cool. You have to go to class but it's bearable. He tries to get you comfortable with the class so it's not so embarrassing when you do your speech. I wrote my speech either the day before or day of class and tried to remember it best I can. I didn't do one speech and got a B in the class. No reason for you to fail. Take him.

A very interesting professor. He makes his classes interesting by providing activities to enhance your public speaking and a way to get along with the class. The speeches aren't that hard but putting effort will guarantee you an A or a B depending on how much you put in. Have fun, overall the best speech professor

Didn't really like him. He was fun for the first couple weeks, but he kind of drove me crazy after that. You can't miss any of the days were speeches are given. if you r sick and can't do it, u fail the speech. Quizzes are very pointless. You have to study for them, but the questions are ridiculous.

I hate this class, but he makes it about as comfortable as possible. The quizzes are a bit ridiculous though. You can read everything and he seems to pick out the most mundane questions within the 5 chapters you were supposed to read. But overall if you gotta take Public Speaking, take Sy.

Public speaking is a nightmare for everyone but this Grant makes it so easy for everyone. He let's you interact with each other which makes it easier to talk infornt of each other. He has like 5 quizzes and their hard because you have to read the chapters but even if you fail all of them and have a decent speech you'll get a B. EASY!!

BEST IN THE WORLD. I took this class back in 2005 and still think about it. I not only learned about speaking, I learned things I can use in life. Great guy, great mentor, and very concerned about the environment.

Sy grant is the best professor a student could ask for. Show up for his class, and put some effort into the reading. I would recommend him to anyone taking speech - you CANT go wrong with Sy.
