DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. 1- gave the only blatantly unfair exam I have ever taken. 2- class material was entirely based on racism, discrimination and poverty instead of psychological development. 3- takes more than 48 hours to respond to an email. 4- your grade will not be indicative of your intelligence or performance. Do not take her.

She's extremely nice, intelligent, and her voice is so soothing so her lectures aren't horrible. Although she's amazing, you really have to do your part in studying for the tests. They are very in-depth and hard, but if you know your stuff you'll do well.

Many psychology majors love Dr. Young. She is an eloquent speaker and extremely knowledgeable of childhood development. Unfortunately I found her class to be rather disorganized. It was never quite clear what I should study. Don't be put off by her direct and formal manner, she's very nice and caring.

The class seems harder than it is-- while you're in it, you'll be worried about doing well, but at the end of the semester, you'll be just fine. Dr. Young is very kind, but the class can get a little boring. Be willing to participate. You don't use the textbook at all- you just purchase the manual she makes for the class (like $7 or $8).

Dr. Young isn't my favorite professor at JCU, but she isn't my least favorite. The first part of the class was mostly learning about poverty and not so much child development. Her tests are weird. You have to pay attention during lectures because she often includes content not in the manual

Dr. Young is not a difficult or unhelpful professor, but I recommend you avoid her. She's impossible to contact outside of class, her tests are often "group tests," which are incredibly frustrating, and she tends to lecture on poverty and race relations instead of psychology.

HORRIBLE teacher!! Do NOT take whatever you do..her class is all over the place, you never know what's going on, and it's mostly about poverty and blacks, NOT child development. Avoid at all costs!! Her tests make no sense as well and she seems to make up everything as she goes. Very boring class and monotone voice I dreaded this class everyday!

Comment:
This class was irritating. It was based mostly on child poverty rather than child development. She is unclear about her expectations for assignments, and will put the most random tiny details on tests. Also the book (which she wrote) is unorganized and confusing. Not what I was expecting out of this class.

Dr. Young is a nice helpful teacher, but her class had very little to do with its topic. I came into PS 261 expecting to learn about the development of children biologically and psychologically, but instead found myself taking notes on poverty and rare disorders. The tests, however, reflect only child development material, which is frustrating.

Her tests are kind of difficult, but if you do your work and take good notes, they're doable. She's definitely intimidating at first - don't let that trip you up, because once you get to know her she's one of the most helpful and friendly professors in the department - which is saying something.

Dr. Young was definitely intimidating at first, but she is truly a nice woman who really cares about her students! Class structure was disorganized at times, but manageable if you kept up with the text. One group test, one take home group essay test, and class participation/discussion grades. Very knowledgeable and helpful.

Dr. Young is one of the nicest, most helpful teachers at JCU. She truly loves what she teaches and it shows. Tests are very fair- first is group, second is partner, third you're on your own and the final you get to use a cheat sheet! She's always around to help too- HIGHLY reccommended!!

She's very nice and speaks kinda softly. Tests were easy at the beginning because they were group/partner test. Final was all multiple choice and pretty hard. 15 Page paper due at the end of the semester that was pretty tough as well because she didn't give very good guidelines. Have to study pretty hard for all the tests.
