Retired but still teaches sometimes, Birds were chirping louder than him. U cannot hear him! No one participated b/c u cannot hear him! Makes English boring, judges/grades very hard on Papers Which is positive because u learn but he makes class boring! only available by appointment n email

Alot of reading, and classroom lessons are very boring. This professor takes no prisoners when it comes to grading. I had to drop the class after a month I just wasnot understanding the material and with him piling on the assignments didn't help either.

I was scared to take his class at first but i REALLY loved it at the end. He's a really sweet man and knows the material extremely well. He's very passionate about it and he expects a lot from his students. If you expect to never pick up a book then you WILL fail this class. If you actually try, you will pass.

Comment:

Very dedicated and passionate about poetry. Class is tough because there is a lot of reading and analysis, but he will tell you a lot of good points in class, which you can use for your papers and the two exams. Straightforward class if you pay attention. Very sweet man that will be delighted with your questions. I learned a lot, and kept the book.

Really difficult, esoteric assignments. Stern loves poetry but really does not teach it too well. I would say take him if you want A LOT of reading. There's a quiz practically every other week, 5 three page papers, an annoying MLA bibliography, a midterm, & a final. He grades easily on tests and really hard on papers. I would not take him again.

Very helpful professor. Guides you every step of the way. Makes all the requirements for his assignments crystal clear. If you follow his instructions, you'll get a good grade. The only downside - his lectures are a bit boring.
