Comment:
The lecture material is unclear and overkill. You would have better luck just reading the textbook or watching YouTube videos. He reuses older exams, which creates an unfair advantage to those who have access. Cheating scandals can be avoided if he just posts practice exams/quizzes. Nice during office hours though.

Prof. Scordilis is amaaaaazing!!!!! He knows a lot about his field. Extremely knowledgeable and accessible. His lectures were the best Ive ever had. Even though the tests and quizzes are hard, it is still possible to get an A because he curves. In short, it would be hard, but worth it!!

He knows a lot about the subject. Class time is solely spent in lecture. In order to succeed in the class, do the readings beforehand, go to office hours, and dedicate time to processing material after class. It is really easy to get behind in learning the material because there is no deliverable homework. Make your own study guides as you go.

Things you should know that he won't say: - Tests are based solely on what was said in class. Record lectures and remember: - little details - measurements, images - subjective statements about topics - The "papers" aren't essays. Use lots of numbers, protein names, images, specific amino acids, etc. Get more in with detailed figure legends.

The class is REALLY difficult. Rumors said that he is proud of the class being "hell" bio and surely he is. It's really difficult to follow the lecture as he only say things once. There are so many materials packed in one lecture that there's almost no time to think or even wonder about the questions (you would miss a ton if you do).

This class may seem easy at first. But it will catch up to you in no time! It is extremely difficult. Prof. Scordilis is extremely knowledgeable and willing to help you succeed as long as you are willing to put the work in. There are a few 1-page papers, a few quizzes, and three exams. The exams, as others have stated, will be awful. So be ready.

It's a difficult class but bearable as long as you don't fall behind. Utilize the study guides and when in doubt, circle TRUE!

Great class. You do have to work but if you come to class, review the powerpoints, and study from the review sheets and finals you'll do fine. Prof Scordilis is helpful and funny, and you definitely learn a lot over the semester. Highly recommend!

A demanding professor but is passionate about the subject and wants to share that with his students. He doesn't seem it, but he is very friendly. His tests are very hard, but the final is much easier. You will learn a lot from him if you are willing to put in the time and effort, including attending reviews and office hours.

First and foremost, Cell Bio is a weeding class. It's one of the hardest classes at Smith: you cover a ton of material, his tests are difficult, and who really wants to learn Cell Bio at 8 o'clock in the morning?Scordilis is friendly, but he's old school. Also, if you're not completely invested in the subject, you might do poorly.

I recommend taking advantage of this man's office hours because his class is difficult and his tests are hard. When studying, go over the handouts from class-- he'll use the same handout on the test where you have to "fill in the blanks." Also, T/F questions are almost always true. Finally, you'll do fine if you circle all the multiple choice...

These comments are not accurate. He works hard to keep students from failing (many ignore his emails and phone calls). He is more than willing to sit down with people to talk about the class. He comes off as arrogant but you just need to work past it. He does get really annoyed with students who don't come to class but he tries still tries to help

If you turn off the lights for a PPT pres at 8:00 a.m., you need to make sure the lectures are interesting. As far as tests are concerned, I was not doing as well as I wanted until I was told the guy hates the write false statement... Well, for the last test, I just chose "T" for all statements. It was the best score I had in his class!

His class is hard, confusing, and demanding. However, if you do the work, you learn. He's not that nice of a guy, so if you ask a question in class, and if he thinks it was a stupid question, and he will embrass you with his WTF face. I advise you take this class with stupid people because class curve does WONDERS, and study from past exams.

Overall a good class. This professor is a good lecturer, but the tests are difficult and you need to learn an incredible volume of material over the semester - my notes fill 2 1-inch binders. He posts powerpoints in advance, and goes quickly through them. Grading is fair, and outside the tests the coursework is light.

Don't go to him at the end of the semester and ask how you are doing when u know that you've been doing badly all semester long. This class is very demanding and hard but if you put the effort into, it is possible to get an A. I enjoyed the material we covered but i definately felt like his tests were too weird...

take this class somewhere else if you possibly can. it's a very interesting subject, but i came close to hating it because i took it with this professor. the only way to do well is to cheat, because the test questions are barely related to what he covers in class and they go into a level of detail not expected of anyone but grad students. beware
