Comment:

Sometimes frazzled/grumpy but overworked. Experience in Span Ed only so her examples are 99% Sp but the ideas are applicable for Fr/Ger. Uses other teachers to demo Fr/Ger lessons sometimes. Takes no prisoners, spares no feelings, but cares a lot about your understanding and progress. Very hard class, but absolutely worth it. Be afraid but excited.

Comment:

Dr. Barry is the most incredible professor I've ever had. She has prepared me to be an incredibly competent foreign language teacher, and I enjoy my job because I use everything that I learned in her program on a daily basis. Here classes are not easy, but what she can teach you to do absolutely works.

Comment:

Her classes are very demanding but absolutely prepared me to teach without needing to rely on a textbook. She is blunt and scattered, but it works out in the end. Thanks to her classes I can design my own curriculum and give my students a more interactive experience.

Comment:

Work for her is time-consuming (though a lot of application), but founded in methods and research. Presentation of material well-sequenced. Have found strategies explored to be very effective in the classroom. Class discussions were helpful. All in all, a lot of work, but well worth it if you're willing to put time and effort in.

Dr. Barry is a difficult teacher who knows exactly what she wants. Her class is definitely not easy. However, she is very dedicated to her job and what she teaches. She undoubtedly prepares her students to be effective foreign language teachers.

Comment:

Relies too much on Spanish for a class that's for French students as well. Disorganized, but expects you to be perfectly organized. Makes you meet with her to discuss your ideas for teaching demonstrations, but this is just so she can tell you what she wants you to teach so she doesn't have to. Uses paradigms to teach us not to teach w/ paradigms.

She is very hard and very demanding and, yes, even scatterbrained. She gets upset quite easily. However, she needs to expect a lot, especially from graduate students. She will help you become a better professional.

Dr. Barry is disorganized and scatter-brained. Her French-speaking skills leave much to be desired. She relies heavily on her fluency in Spanish when teaching methods courses, leaving the French teachers lost and unprepared. Useless class for all of us

DR. Barry though not easy, will prepare you for a career in teaching. I thought that the work would never end when I was in her program. However the work has paid off big time. I am enjoying my classes and my career. It is all due to Dr. Barry. Gracias!
