This class goes very deep into the study of genetic. The slides are pretty self explanatory, but not enough to understand fully about the concepts. The exams are very difficult. You really need to understand fully in order to answer the question. The lectures are pretty boring but must listen and write down everything otherwise hard to understand

I would not recommend his gene expression class, but if you MUST take it- be prepared. Introduces a 20 page paper for extra credit, dont laugh DO IT-start it at the beginning of the semester. Slides are dense but use them mainly with minor supplementation of text. Exams are LONG, SPECIFIC and short answer write down everything you know!

201 was a very difficult class, especially at 8am, but Dr Chen was really nice and kept things interesting. He was very understanding with any issues you had outside of the class and very lenient with exams. Definitely use the book as a reference to explain experiements and diagrams from lecture notes. I thought he was great in a small class setting

if you go to lecture, you will see that Chen is clear and understandable. Maybe, this varies for different people. The exams for this class was very challenging (mcb 201), but definitely do-able.study his lecture notes! After the first exam, i just looked at the books to explain the diagrams and concepts i didnt know.

Has a pretty heavy accent but is understandable if you sit up front. Tests seemed a little too hard, but it's the molecular/cell part of general bio, so what can you do? Sometimes cracked a joke, seems like an OK guy. Didn't rush through stuff even though we ended up a bit behind in the syllabus. Provides slides for printing.

A geniunely nice guy, Chen is not remotely difficult if you read the book and pay attention to what he says, any naysayers gave up trying on the first day and now are trying to shift the blame for their grade of a D- to Dr Chen.

If you take an intro to Korean before you take this course you're golden... Dr. Chen knows his stuff, but his lectures are wicked boring, and he speaks too softly on top of being hard to understand.

He wasn't too good as a lecturer, but he didn't surprise us on the exams. It was basically "follow the CD that comes with the book and you're golden." Not too hard to understand if you concentrate and forget that there's a world where people have enlish as their first language.

This guy is HILARIOUS. But thats just about all he is. His exams are almost impossible. Even if you think you know what you are doing. Try to get another professor because chances are you won't go to class; and if you do you won't understand him.
