Comment:

The best theatre professor at SLU! He's incredibly knowledgeable in his field, and offers thought provoking lectures and feedback. He is more focused on learning rather than busywork and tests- for one class we only had 5 assignments the whole semester: a short paragraph, a presentation, a review of a play, and an (open note) midterm and final.

Come to class, actively participate, put quality into the few assignment you get and you will get an A. He is energetic and always in a good mood. He also is not afraid to tell you that you are wrong, but he will always explain why and give you a chance to defend your answer. He isn't rude about it, he just wants you to know whats what.

I have had Tom for several classes now, and he is one of my favorite professors at SLU. He is so passionate about what he does and inspires the same passion in his students. I ALWAYS have a good time in that class, he is hilarious, and I feel like my opinions are valued and I learn so much. I love the discussion-based format of his classes! TAKE!!!

I deffinitely understand how Tom can be found to be a bit pompous at times, but the man knows his stuff and has interesting insight. I admire his daringness. He loves feedback and participation, as well as conversation about theatre that goes deeper than you might expect.

Tom is pretty much awesome. Most of the class is lecture, but there is a fun project that all Intro classes do where you design a set, lights, and costumes for a play. Do the work and have fun. He also teaches a Stage Management class every other year and is a stage manager himself. Cool guy. Make him laugh and you'll be cool.

im not really sure what other reviewers are talking about.i found tom to be pompous/only liking to hear the sound of his own voice.it seems as though he regularly comes to class not having a clue what he wants to lecture about.syllabus and all his assignments were ridiculously vague and he was no help in clearing them up.easy class, but AVOID HIM.

Tom Martin is a fun teacher. He will make jokes almost every day in class. He really loves theatre in every way possible and it shows with his classes. Although, theatre career prep. should only be taken if a theatre major. Otherwise, and even if you are a major, it isn't worth as much of your time.

Considering a class under the direction of Tom Martin? Do yourself a favor and just take the class. As previously stated, he's a great guy and he loves feedback from his class.
