Took his ENG 425A - Themes of Literature: US Ethnic Literature course. Dr. Perez is an excellent professor, really knows the material and is passionate about the topics and subjects discussed. Really great english professor that chose interesting, varied readings. Provided plenty of useful supplemental information as well. Reasonable workload for summer course. Wasn't very detailed when giving feedback but was an easy grader. I enjoyed this class a lot without feeling overwhelmed.

Dr. Perez is incredible. I've taken four classes with him so far. He gives you only the best, and most thought provoking readings. You have a 10 question quiz a week, 2 essays, and a mid-term. If you don't miss any classes, you get to skip the final. I can only hope to be as great of a professor as he.

He is a very kind man and very understanding. I work odd hours during school and if you inform him of something like that in your life, he will assist in any way he can (postponing paper due dates and even not counting your absences against you). I have taken about 3 courses with him and none have been bad.

Comment:

One of the best teachers and classes! The class is structured where you have weekly quizzes so you stay on top of the reading, which cultivates class discussions. Perfect attendance allows you to opt out of the final. Overall, a great discussion based class that talks about topics pertinent in the real world. Would take again and highly recommend

Dr. Perez is such a nice man. I really enjoyed going to his class everyday. I took this class over summer so it was a lot of reading but all of the assignments were pretty interesting and we talked through them in a really genuine way. This class is not an "easy A" but if you do what you're supposed to do then you will do well!

Super awesome professor!!!! He will talk about the readings to clarify if you do not understand something. I took class over the summer and the readings were long, but they were entertaining. I look forward to taking other classes with Dr. Perez. He also relates the readings to daily life experiences so again, super interesting.! :)

He's a really laid-back guy with a couple of ideas on the current text that he brings to class each meeting, and that's about it - the rest of the class is taken up by restated points or tepid student discussion. Easy quizzes, easy papers, easy grading, but his lectures will put you out like a candle if you aren't careful.

Dr. Perez is my favorite professor at UNLV. Like a lot of people have said, he assigns a lot of reading but 90% of it is page-turning. Quiz once a week. If you attend every class u don't have to take the final. You do end up reading like 6 books over the semester tho

I really enjoyed his Chicano course. He does assign a bit of reading, but it's interesting material that you'll enjoy reading. Quiz every week, 2 papers, a midterm, and a final. He's very knowledgeable, but I do wish it was a little more discussion based. Overall a great course!

He is extremely nice and helpful, and he is very well educated. You can tell he knows a lot. He might emphasize his tenure position and his phd degree a lot in the emails, but no, he doesn't brag about it like some other profs do. I always hate literature but I loved his class and by the end of the term I actually wish the class last longer.

Dr Perez is amazing. He is the best professor in the unlv eng dept. His classes have heavy reading (you end up reading 7-9 novels a semester) so if you are looking for a class to breeze through you may want to take someone else. He gives quizzes once a week on the readings with pretty specific questions so you can't fake it. 3 papers. Mid term and final short answer and essay format. Class discussions are really good. Highly recommended!!!

LOVED this class. We read a total of seven books this semester, all of them VERY interesting. There's a quiz every week on that week's reading, a midterm, a final, a family history assignment, and two papers. Dr. Perez is an awesome guy and an awesome professor. I highly recommend taking a course with him!

I loved Dr. Perez's class. His class was my favorite this past semester. He's very engaging and loves to hear what people have to say. He spends a lot of time in class discussing the material we read, and I learned so much from him. Fair and easy grader. Definitely take him if you get a chance.
