Comment:
Professor Redford is a cultured man and obviously knows what he is talking about. His lectures tend to be a bit boring for someone not interested in the class, however the TA provided a study session that was beyond helpful and helped me ace each test so far. Attendance is taken daily and is counted.

Dr. Redford is a very knowledgeable man. His lectures drag on and the powerpoints aren't very much help. Your final grade consists of four test scores and your attendance. Communicate with your TA and you should be fine.

Listening to Redford speak is like listening to a seasoned storyteller. I looked forward to his lectures. Slow email response though. You MUST attend class and take GREAT NOTES to pass all four tests (the only grades you get other than participation). Also, Nittany Notes only helped me on the 1st test... so those suck for this class.

Easily the worst class I have taken at Penn State . His tests or as he calls them "quizzes" are approximately 25 questions in length. About a quarter of those questions are identifying the speaker of a quote. Those quotes are never on the powerpoint or in the textbook, they are spoken orally and you're supposed to memorize them. DO NOT TAKE.

Do not take this class! It was impossible to get an A (I'm not sure anyone in my particular section did!) He tells you to study specific chapters but then decides to bring information back from previous chapters and the exams are not supposed to be cumulative! Overall I had a terrible experience with this class and I would not recommend it.

Do not take this class...I thought it would be an easy gen ed but it's not. Redford is obviously very smart but the class is overwhelming. There is so much information and the exams range from very broad to very specific information. Class notes are extremely difficult because he is talks a mile a minute and the powerpoints are not helpful.

I took this class to fulfill a requirement, but it ended up being one of my all-time favorite classes. Dr. Redford is incredibly helpful and engaging. The course is easy if you come to class and do the translations. Attendance is a large portion of the grade, so GO TO CLASS! If you need clarification on anything, he will fully explain it for you.

Textbook is not needed. Just take notes on lecture. Go to class 20% is attendance. Exams are easy. He is very laid back and nice.

Seminar on Akhenaten and Tutankhamun with both of the Drs Redford. They are a lot of fun, bickering the whole time. Very relaxed atmosphere, decent amount of reading, primarily discussion-based. No tests.

Redford's a pretty nice guy and the class is alright. If you have little to no interest in Ancient Egypt, I'd suggest to stay away from this class because it can get dry. That being said, I'd also recommend that you don't take it early in the morning, because it's very easy to want to skip it or fall asleep! Overall, good class, but NOT an easy A.

The class is pretty easy. I don't really use my textbook at all. I study for about 15 minutes before each test and have gotten all B's. He says um a lot but you get used to it. He also stars all the things you absolutely should know.

He goes way to fast on the lectures and barely leaves them up for you. The study sessions are a waste of time since the TA is just as bad if not worse. The only good thing is that the attendance will help you

Very interesting class. You can tell that he really loves what he's talking about. Attendance is mandatory and make sure you go, because if you don't you WILL fall behind and do poorly on tests! His notes are very clear and he always says what he wants you to have memorized. If you have an interest in Egypt, I highly recommend this course :)

The class is completely lecture based and it's extremely difficult to take notes bc he goes on tangents. I went to his office hours and he was never there. The tests are 2/3 extremely specific details that he mentioned once. The book mirrors the lectures bc he wrote it. Awful class and hard to do well in. The tests are the only grades. Dont take it

This class is extremely difficult. His lectures are very fast paced, it is almost impossible to keep up. There is no student interaction. Tests are a mix of very broad with extremely detailed questions. I went to his office hours twice, he was never there. I emailed him 3 times, no response. I would not take this class.

Dr. Redford is probably the most revered professor at Penn State. If you go to Penn State you need to take this class just to sit in his lectures and listen to someone as knowledgeable as he is.

Redford is an awesome guy. He really loves Egyptian history and that makes his lectures easy to listen to. Tests are easy B's. Try to get Eric Welch for your TA.
