Comment:
Prof Piacente is clearly someone who's very smart, but I get the sense that its really his way or the highway. If you even stray slightly from what he's taught in class, he'll attack you for it. His feedback is good, but harsh. You'll come out a better writer and thinker but at the cost of your sanity, perhaps.

Professor Piacente is definitely the ABSOLUTE BEST. He is hilarious and highly inspirational. You don't need to read the text, just go to class and he will read out any important excerpts. Love his in-class jokes. Love his teaching style. Love the essays he assigned. Love his philosophical theory. Love his feedback. TAKE HIM! TAKE HIM! TAKE HIM!

Professor Piacente is the BEST professor I have ever had. The topics he teaches in SF3 is really philosophical and intriguing (at least to me). Readings are tough sometimes but he will get everything clear in the lecture. His teaching style is amazing and I never skipped his class. TAKE HIS CLASS if you have a chance!

This is my 5th semester with Al and I knew I wanted him to be the main adviser for my GLS thesis. Al knows the process so well and is able to really break it down into manageable tasks. He gives great feedback and recognizes that senior year can be really stressful. Love Al and can't wait for a 6th and final semester!

Al is the funniest professor ever and makes the concepts really easy. No midterm, the final is a little tough but go to class and you should be fine. His quizzes are super specific and short so pay attention. If you aren't going to do the readings take some good notes bc that'll help you with your papers and final.

I loved Al's class! He's hilarious and a great lecturer. He makes dense philosophy interesting. Go to his office hours before papers because he has very specific requirements for papers! Also, GO TO CLASS. Although you can get buy without doing all the readings, Al tells you so much info in class that he'll test you on in the final so take notes!

Very accessible for office hours and provides good feedback and suggestions. Added bonus: his stories are hilarious.

Every class is like a big discussion, is somehow highly organized and completely disorganized at the same time, but he makes everything really interesting. Funny anecdotes, knows his stuff, has a hyper fun personality. GO TO OFFICE HOURS before writing your papers. He has something in mind for each prompt that might not be obvious w/o office hours.

There is a fairly solid amount of reading, but you can get by without doing all of it if needed, and only two papers. Al really cares about what he's teaching and knows it really well, he is always very open to questions, and he holds an abundant amount of office hours so it's easy to do well if you're willing to try. He can be very funny too!!

Al is the greatest all around. His paper topics are engaging and interesting and all of his lectures are amazing. As long as you show interest and engage, Al will love you!

Al is simply the best! I've taken 2 semesters with him and will take a 3rd. He's totally wacky but super intelligent. You'll write two papers for him, not long, but his requirements are very specific. As long as you do what he says, you're in for a good grade! Also, AL DOESNT MAKE YOU BUY BOOKS!

Prof Piacente is my favorite professor so far at NYU though many people may not see him in the same light. He grade you based off a presentation, two essays, and a final so if you are not good at presentations or essays then you will probably not do too well on the course. He is also an amazing person that gives of serious hipster vibes xD

Fantastic professor, funny and engaging. BUT if you want an easy A this is not the class for it. I think the average grade is B. Rarely gives out As extremely tough but I don't regret taking his class cause it's so enjoyable and you learn a lot from him. Simply put, if you want an easy A he is not for you. But if you wanna learn he is the man for u

Great prof, extremely funny, never a dull moment in class. Can get sidetracked with his stories and jokes but it's for the lulz. Tough grader, and readings can be brutal but he doesnt make you buy the readings which is always a plus point.

Professor Piacente is super awesome. Most of your grade consists around a research paper. This paper can have as much to do with the class content as you want it to, so its a pretty good situation. If you had no interest in philosophy before he will make you change your mind. Prepare to have your misconceptions about LSP challenged.
