Phill is an interesting man. He cares about his students and wants you to succeed. He can sometimes be a bit much, and doesn't sugar coat things, but that's theater.

Comment:

He may be tough at times, but he's just trying to push you to be better as a DTM. He can be serious when need be and fun in down time. Great sense of humor that makes class fun. The only downside is his freaking videos.

Phil is a terrible human being. He has no sympathy for anyone and is on a constant power trip. He will not treat you like a person, let alone an equal. Plus, his work on the in the theater is POOR and embarrassing for our program.

Honestly, Phill is my favorite person ever at Wagner. He is such a fun teacher, we actually learn material useful to our chosen careers and he is just the best person ever. Plus he looks like Santa Clause :)

Although Phill is an excellent technical person, he has a hard time teaching the material. "The Book is Wrong." was stated a lot and the man doesn't mean harm, however, he's just not the best teacher. Its almost beneath him to teach the intro class, and he thinks we're impressed that he worked on over 35 wagner shows ... we are not!!

Comment:

Phil is one of the few theatre teachers with a love for the craft at wagner. He understands the industry, the other teachers there, and the students who he is helping to mould. This class is serious design work so bring some creativity, study and learn how to draw a set with true perspective, and respect all apects of the artform you're throwing your life into. He can also provide sage advice for students caught in the political web woven by other students (and teachers) in the program.

He knows his stuff but can't teach it. He thinks that people actually care about what he did back when he was young. His lectures are boring and he does not convey what he knows well to the students. He expects perfection in introductory class, and does not help students reach the high goals he sets

phil is a terrible teacher. he knows what he's talking about, but he is unable to apply it to classroom lectures. he's biased in favor of techies which makes for some amusing situations in class, but not worth the bad notes and poor lectures. if you wanna really learn from him go work in the shop.

Without technical theater majors, actors would be performing in the dark... and in most cases that would not be a bad thing. Phil is unclear about most assignments, but helpful if you come to him for additional information. Pay attention and do your work. Duh. I don't go to college for free.

maybe althletes shouldn't take a theatre class that is usually for theatre majors. If you actually pay attention in his class, you won't do terribly. but then again... you're althletes. PS: teaching from the book is terrible, you can't do that with theatre, its applied.

def. bias to non-theatre people esp. athletes, looks down on you, gives awful notes, doesnt teach from the book and doesnt review before the test, he teaches after a project or test and therefore dont do well

Phil is the man. While I know he favors techies over actors, he's a great guy, a dead on for the reincarnated Jerry Garcia, and one of the only honest members of the department. He doesn't indulge in the theatre politics and THANK GOD.

Really knows what he teaches. Cares about his students. FUNNY!! A really great professor and friend to many in the department. He is one of the main reasons I came to Wagner!
