Comment:
I have taken a handful of classes with Professor Brewster, and wish I could've taken more. If you show you care by showing up to class, and going to office hours, there's nothing he won't do to help you succeed. His lectures are dry, and his sense of humor is strange, but he's the greatest.

Comment:
Professor Brewster has been researching and teaching group theory for a long time and is definitely an expert in the subject. He also teaches tools-first, meaning that when you start using concrete examples, you'll be able to see the abstract aspects of group theory in the example.

Ben is my favorite professor at BU, he's definitely caring and willing to help you outside of class. However, he sometimes crosses lines of logic and doesn't really make sense. Have to keep on top of his lectures, he sometimes makes mistakes that he won't catch. Funny and grades based on how much you try and show up along with quizzes and homework.

Had him for 3 classes. Prof. Brewster is one of the nicest, and most caring professors in the math department. He's very smart, and helpful outside of class. That being said, he doesn't always articulate his ideas clearly, especially if you don't understand/know math. He's a pretty lenient grader, but his exams aren't exactly the easiest. Love him.

Brewster is without a doubt the nicest most caring professor in the department, but he's not for everyone. If you hate going to class and always teach yourself the material from the textbook, he is for you. He is not a strict grader, he grades you on how hard you work. 402 is the easiest class ive taken. if you get through 401, take 402. trust me.

Nice man but hard to understand. Frequently fails to explain himself well if at all. Clearly very bright but has difficulty putting his knowledge into words

Brewster is a really kind, funny, old man. I like him as a person, but not necessarily as a teacher. He's disorganized; doesn't cover everything well enough for the exams, didn't let us know there webworks, and usually says "I don't know" to almost anything he didn't prepare for class that day. But he's cute and genuinely cares for his students.

Comment:
Brewster is a really nice guy and tells lots of cheesy jokes. However he is a terrible professor. Do not take modern algebra with him unless you need to. His lectures are unclear. He doesn't state theorems clearly or fully complete the examples he does in class. Sometimes he does the problems wrong.

Brewster seems like a nice guy, but this guy cannot teach well at all. He is very confusing and he messes up a lot. The material is not very easy, but I did get an A in the class (probably because he told the class that he hates giving grades and he just gave everyone a good grade). Wouldn't recommend this class unless it's required for your major.

Professor Brewster is a Southern gentleman who loves baseball. He is very much willing to help you if you are having issues, but cannot teach at all. He comes at least 5 minutes late to every class and always says "Let's quit" 10 minutes before class ends after getting the two problems he put on the board wrong. He did not think those problems up.

Absolutely awful professor. He throws up theory and proofs on the board without explaining what he's doing or what the goal of what he's showing even is. All information is presented in highly theoretical forms in class. He does not show you how to do the types of questions on tests.

Brewster is a sweet Southern gent, but he can't teach well at all. The class is almost always lost in his words as he jumps from topic to topic and invariably goes off on a tangent. Tests are crazy hard, so make sure you know your stuff. You'll need to rely on the textbook heavily, but it's doable.

Very helpful if you decide to visit office hours. He is very kind and speaks clear, but his handwriting can be hard to follow. He also likes to go off-topic at times. As the head of MATH-222 he will prepare you well for the final because he has the most say in making it(more difficult than others from what I heard).

took calc 2 with him. he was really nice. usually 5 minutes late to class everyday. Begins the class with going over homework that people had problems with. He's knowledgeable but he doesn't present the material well. Then again the course itself is suppose to be hard.

Brewster obviously knows the material, but he can't teach well at all. He's a cool guy, but you'll learn to rely on the textbook. Put homework problems on the board and have your classmates help.

He's a very nice guy and quite helpful if you have questions. However, he gives hard quizzes + pop quizzes in addition to those and he will trick you on them. The other problem is that he often spends too much time on derivations.
