He is an easy A, but for me i learned nothing. He read from his notes for majority of the lecture and was very boring. Did not prepare me for history 118 with another teacher who expected more knowledge.

It took classes from him in 1980-81. The most memorable prof. I ever had. I learned important lessons from him, number one was to ask questions.

Amazing teacher. He has a wealth of information and personal life experience that he weaves into his lectures. He makes it an engaging learning environment and although he has certain political view he respects those of others.

Wonderful teacher. You will learn in Mr. Zylstra's class whether you want to or not! It's a shame he is retiring at the end of next quarter but after 40 years of teaching, he's earned it. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to take one of his classes. By far one of Whatcom's best teachers!

One of my faves. He is interesting and sincere. Really cares about his students, lenient about late work. Tests are long essay answers, but lets you know clearly what you will be tested on. This guy is a treasure!

Excellent teacher. He doesnt assign a lot of homework, but I personally felt I got a lot out of his classes. He's certainly an intelligent guy and has lots of stories of growing up during WWII. Also, sure he has an accent but I never felt there was any difficulty in understanding him.

This teacher is super easy. He gives reviews to study for tests. The questions on the review are the questions on the test. He also gives the answers of the review 2 days prior to the test day. But he has an out of class test that u have to do on your own. I recommend this teacher over any other although it's BORING sitting through the lectures.

Nice guy, will help with any problems you have. Very easy course. Lectures are hard to sit through, I rarely fall asleep in class but have struggled to stay awake pretty much every class. It's easy, attendance is mandatory, and he's a nice guy.

He is very nice. Very blunt with what he believes religiously, and is able to talk about without forcing it down your throat! Very good. Absent-minded, but when you get to be 77 and still teaching, I guess that's ok! Incredably smart, and has very interesting stories to tell. Boring in the lecture, but very nice over all!

this prof lives up to his legend-he is incredibly easy, a good idea to take his class w/ a sciene.however, i do not exagerate when i say it is PAINFUL to sit through his lectures.I would highly recommend that u take his online course, with the easy grade and the no pointless babbling-i wish i had.

Most important tips: 1.Go to every class, there is a signup sheet if you miss a class, you lose 5 points. 2.Before the test, when he reviews the questions... WRITE FAST!! 3. Read or skim the chapters assigner, or else you will have no roadmap to follow in the lonnnnggg lectures. 4. If you want an A in the class, you should study atleast 3 hours.

I love Zylstra! He tells lots of stories and grades really easy. If you don't want to go to class you could come up with an excuse and as long as you let him know he's fine with it. He likes to tell you a lot about WWII because he was living in Holland during that time. One of my all time favorite teachers.

I also had him for HIST 103. Zylstra is an older gentleman who knows quite a lot about history--and some stories, too. It's often hard to stay awake in his class, but he is a nice guy and makes the class very easy for you by reviewing before an exam. Just start early on the 2000 word essay.

The "class" seems limited to sentences beginning "As the good book says..." and anecdotal tangents with little to no bearing on the subject. He speaks about history as if early civilizations were all building towards the culmination of humanity - Christianity, of course! DON'T take this if you're interested in the subject. I transferred out EARLY.

Really nice guy. Class is just lectures and videos and is really hard to sit through. You wouldn't even need to go to class but he takes attendance. Easy class but pretty boring. He tells stories every once in a while. Easy A.
