She got me hooked on marine biology. She helped me realize my potential and I got my degrees in marine biology. She infects you with her enthusiasm for the subject, making you want to study harder and make her proud. There is a lot of material and tests are arduous, but they only prepare you for the future. Science is tough and extremely rewarding.

Waste of a teacher! Do not take... Has no consideration in her students. Gives WAY TOO much material to memorize! Almost everyday has a quiz ,makes them super tricky. Exams are extremly long and pointless. Snappy, and rude. AvoiD hER!

Very hard teacher, but if you show up to class and study your material you can pass. Plus there's tons of extra credit. She makes the class fun with labs and field trips on weekends and for class meetings. There's pop quizzes almost everyday or at least once a week. Wonderful teacher. Take her if you are really serious about biology.

Oh come on, what a bunch of whiners. Yes the class covers ALOT of information, (the entire animal kingdom) but she is very clear, definitely fun, one of the best teachers i've ever had. Take it in chunks just like she teaches it, in the taxonomic system and you'll do fine.

Extremely difficult, unhelpful. tests require memorizing types of animals, animals in jars, bones of whales, amongst other pointless information for non-marine biology majors. Inquiries into one's grade are greeted with hostility. Class requires every weekend, including an 8 hour boat trip to find a crab. Not worth it. Please avoid !

She is very hard, but a fantastic teacher. One thing you need to know -- she hates people who argue for points. She won't give you anything, even if she makes a mistake on the test, and she'll be irritated with you forever.

Frietas is a great teacher that loves her career. If you put in the effort in the long run it will pay off. Yes, there is a lot of assignments, like any college course, as well as extra credit. She is a great teacher that is helpful and really makes you understand the big picture with films, fieldtrips and group work. You will learn a lot!

Don't take Bio 30 unless you're a Bio major, take 41 instead. Claudia Freitas is the only instructor for 30, and let me tell you, she's one of the hardest instructors i've ever had. She expects you to work you ass off, and you will if you want to get a passing grade. Save your free time and take another lab course for your requirements.

I was so interested in Marine Biology and I was hoping for a fun, easy going, class. Well that's what she made it sound like in the beginning. But when she's expecting you to do 200 question exams, meetings off campus on our own weekends, craming over a hundred slides of organisms, and knowing at least 6 chapters in a matter of weeks, was a little out of hand and I'm hard worker. If you're lookin for a challenge, go for it, but if you really want to feel like a failure, I'd advise you to stay away from it.

She extremely enthusiastic and passionate about what she teaches. Plus there were way fun field trips and she was always 100% willing to help anyone who needed it.It is overall one the best courses i have taken

Claudia will bust your ass, no doubt about it. You have to pay attention, because anything she ever says can be on the test, but she tells you that at the beginning of the course. Her tests are long, and difficult, but she goes over everything in class. Nothing left to surprises. This class isn't going to be a 'let's sit and talk about animals class, its going to be work your ass off. I took her and got a 97% but I also did 170 points extra credit. Having no life helps with Claudia's class, as does interest

The class is a difficult class if you are not willing to study and take notes. The exams are 200 questions (100 practical, 100 objective.) There are alot of questions, though, they are relatively simple questions. You either know it or you don't. However, the teacher gets you involved with Marine Bio as much as possible by assigning tons of extra credit points. She is very helpful if you are willing to be open minded. Some notes..Stay awake, be early, and attend the study sessions.

Be prepared to bust your hump on extra credit just to earn a C. Tests were very difficult despite studying. EVERY TEST a few people gave up and walked out. Good luck.
