Bill is one of my favorite professors at Bard. You will learn so much in his class just by showing up. His tests are not easy, but if you listen in class, take good notes, and study, you'll do fine.

Bill is a great teacher. He tells a lot of jokes, but don't be fooled. This class is not easy. Buy the text and TAKE NOTES, because he doesn't use the computer, and there will be no ppts to study with. Make sure to memorize his definitions. I have paraphrased on exams only to get that answer graded 'wrong.'

Bill is a gem. He loves what he does and if you show interest and put sincere effort into his class he'll definitely notice. Go to every lecture, ask lots of questions, and start studying for each test at least a week and a half beforehand. Organismal bio was the hardest, most rewarding, and best class I've taken at Bard.

Bill is a fabulous professor. I took numerous classes of his, and although it is true that his exams are difficult, it was really rewarding to study and do well on them. Also, the material was interesting, and anybody - even non-science majors - can do well in his class if they just show up and study! His classes were my favorite ones at Bard.

Organismal bio with Bill is both fun and shockingly difficult. He is a truly great lecturer and his chalk drawings make the material come alive, but his tests are impossible. He will explain concepts to you in and out of class, but don't expect a good grade unless you are a bio major. I recommend pass/fail.

He is a fountain of information, and everything he teaches is interesting. He is also helpful out of class. However, he is an EXTREMELY tough grader! You can not get anything wrong on a test and still get a C. Take the class, but be prepared.

Bill is a great teacher. He's extremely personable, and it would be really strange to call him Mr. Maple. Very hands-on; you take hikes in various forests as "labs." Truly knowledgeable guy, interested in lecture himself (makes it interesting), hard tests, but very valuable. He likes colored chalk, and laughed at me when I came in covered in snow.

he was my senior project advisor. I don't reccommend anyone have him take this role, as you may slip through the cracks (we met 3 times), BUT he has the greatest wealth of information in NY state, maybe New England. Pay attention, you'll learn a lot, and probably never forget any of it (8 years later, I can still identify bark by species).

I saw Bill Maple pull a 50 pound snapping turtle out of the Tivoli Bays by its tail, and I am not even kidding. He's intense but if you put in some extra effort even non-science folks can learn a lot.

Holy moly, this guy was tough. But not in a good, well-I'm-learning way. More in a I'm-not-even-learning way. Every test had questions that he specifically told us would not be on those tests. I barely escaped this class with my mind intact. Good grandpa-figure, bad professor.

You think field studies is hard? Try botany. Tests are extremely difficult, but Bill is always there to answer questions or help you do better and understand the material. Expects a lot, but very helpful, hilarious, definitely one of my favorite professors ever. I can't imagine anyone disliking him.

Bill Maple: cool guy. I wish he was my grandpa. One of the most fun classes I've ever had. It is true that he picks up dead animals... Just go to class and you should do fine.

Bill's kind of scary in a passive-aggressive way. Watch out for dead animals, he will probably pick them up. Unclear at the beginning of the course how hard it would be. Field studies is a fun class if you're in good company (be prepared for 3 hour walks)
