Comment:
This is my third course with Dr. Hantzis which is important because she is a unique professor and person. Her teaching style is not typical and she prefers to avoid hierarchical structures in the classroom, which can take a few classes to get used to. She is full of insight and intelligence and every comm major should try to take one of her classes

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this professor. You won't know any of your grades and you can't email this professor because they have the tendency to not respond however I've found it helpful talking to the LCPA's that help in class because they are good about reaching out to you. I feel like I've lost confidence from this class.

I took her for my summer online class and she did not even get in contact with us on what we were supposed to do until three weeks after class started. After that, it was all very confusing assignment descriptions and no grading was done until the end- so good luck knowing what your grade is. Overall, please please avoid at all costs if you can!

I am currently in her summer online 312 course. She has yet to post a syllabus or ANY schedule of events for us to follow. She made 1 announcement in week 1 and we have not heard from her since. I have emailed her multiple times with no response. She is the WORST professor I have ever taken. I am totally lost in the class and I regret signing up.

Darlene is a very knowledgeable and respected professor, and she lets you know that. You won't know your grade until the end of the semester, and at times, assignments can be very specific but you have no idea what you're supposed to be doing. Despite this, she is a fantastic professor and as long as you try to follow what she wants its an easy A

Isu isn't known for amazing professors and Darlene won't change your mind about that . Useless discussions that sorta rambles abt everything and nothing. A lot ot reading is required so get prepared for no fun .she thinks she's superior and amazing still she only got recruited in isu where she went for her degree. Her grades come from nowhere

This was one of the hardest but most rewarding classes I've taken. We did an in depth analysis of ourselves and our classmates. There were times I was so lost I didn't even know what I didn't know, but those moments were also met with great epiphanies. Very rewarding, but be ready to work and analyze.

She talks a lot about herself. She overanalyzes things that don't matter. You never know your grade until final grades are posted. We watched an 18 hour Netflix documentary on the Vietnam War, which is something I could have done without paying for.

Darlene was an awesome lecturer but some assignments werent explained very well. We didnt get graded on anything until the end of the semester so it was hard to know where you needed to improve. We worked in the same group for the whole semester, which was hard if you had challenging members.

Darlene is smart and intelligent but she does not know how to teach at all! She tries to be funny but is not funny at all. You never know your grade until the very end so you don't know what you have to work on. She talks in depth about pointless things. Would not take any of her classes again ever!

She was my first comm professor and is my most hated she is an awful professor that rants about things that do not matter 80% of the time. She is annoying and opinionated, she gloats about herself constantly and never puts any grades in so you cannot know your grade so you can improve. I will never take her again, I never read and got by just fine.

Absolutely hated this class. Did not feel like grades were ever clear or accurately distributed. The class discussions rarely made sense to me and she was not honest with me in telling me that "my grade would be fine" and then giving me a lower letter grade. Positives: she's smart. That's about it.

She's awesome! her classes are very engaging, a lot of circling up and speaking in class (optional). she loves when students are engaging; you don't even raise your hand. very discussion based. no tests, and the assignments aren't hard

Be prepared to read. You will read almost the entire book. This class is very heavy on reading. Darlene doesn't every let out early and rarely cancels. She is a very intelligent woman, but sometimes gets off on tangents about things that don't even pertain to the reading and make absolutely no sense. Be prepared to be completely confused.

Don't get me wrong, Darlene's an overall amazing professor. Sometimes she can come off as a strong intellect. As a freshman that sort of scares you because she uses words you've never even heard of before. Reading is a MUST! PARTICIPATION IS CRUCIAL & you won't know your grade until the very last minute.

She really does want the best for each student, but she is very much opinionated. She doesn't upload grades often, so you never really know what you have in the class.
