Terrible Professor. I will give him credit, he is very knowledgeable and knows what he's talking about, however he does not know how to teach at all Teaching is not the right profession for him. Expects you to just know what he wants. Very very vague. Impossible to do well in this class.

You WILL have to WORK to pass this class. Loomis is a kook; 50% of his lectures are full of him mocking Trump, the other 50% is full of vague info pulled from the textbook. His feedback is often unclear and indirect so SEE HIM DURING HIS OFFICE HOURS. He will help you if you go see him.

1. Stay up-to-date on current events (know who, what, when, where, why & so what?) 2. READ YOUR TEXTBOOK 3. Participate and add to class discussion 4. Hand in assignments on time 5. DO NOT skip class Do those 5 things and you'll love Loomis. Yeah, he can be rude but if you work for your grade, you'll learn a ton of valuable information.

Dr. Loomis is truly the best professor I've ever had. Only the best students survive his classes. The journalism department is nothing without Dr. Loomis. The journalism department will die with him.

You will definitely need the book in this class, and attendance is mandatory. 1/3 of each test were questions on current events discussed during class, and the rest were directly from the book. Class is a supplement to self-learning. If you READ every part of every chapter, including footnotes and side-stories, you'll pass with ease

He is knowledgeable but wants his students to fail. He has told me on many occasions that he "doesn't care" if I pass or fail the class because he still gets paid anyway. Rude, evil cretin of a professor. STAY AWAY!!!!!

He does know what he's talking about, he clearly has a strong background, but he has no empathy for students. He will waste numerous classes talking about current events, and then tests will reflect nothing that we've learned in class. Don't take him unless you have to.

Very knowledgeable, but I feel like he spends too much time talking about current events in class and too little time preparing his students for the tests, which are impossible to ace unless he emails a study guide. The good news is that his projects are relatively easy and he prepares you VERY well for the final, which is 25% of the grade.

I am not sure why everyone is saying he is so hard? If you take good lecture notes you will do FINE. I haven't received a grade below a high B in his class and Im not even a journalism major. He is friendly and knows what hes talking about. For tests read you notes and skim the book. Make sure you participate in class too.

Loomis is a grizzled newspaper man and the most experienced of all the 105 profs. Excellent lectures. Tests moderately hard. You must read the book.

he's horrible. the tests are ridiculous and he is way too opinionated. if you do end up taking him, don't let his sense of humor rope you in, he is a truly awful teacher. he's a nice guy, but a bad teacher.

This class is as hard as you make it. Show up every day, take notes all class, study both your notes and textbook and participate in class and you'll be fine. You'll do a lot of note taking and studying, but that's what college is all about. Plus, Loomis can be funny as all hell.

Absoluetly terrible. Completely unclear on everything, and the tests are ridiculous. You can't take notes off the guy because all he does is talk about his opinion; tests are on current events, the entire chapter(s), and stuff you'll never talk about. If you get stuck with him and his fanny pack, good luck.

Very good teach. He is very passionite about journalism and it shows. I had him for 105 and have him now for 120. Tests are tough but curves them EVERY time. If you go to class you will be fine and will actually learn a lot that will be useful later. I am a Comm.major and find his classes very useful. Highly reccomend taking him.

Hardest tests. you have no idea what is on the test. Not much is clarified for the tests. And yes he is opinionated, but he allows you to shout out during class if you disagree. Talks about the news every class - useful info

i never missed a class.....but i also never passed a test. im not sure what these people are talking about but this was the worst class ever. i love journalism and i am a comm major. loomis was inappropriate and vulgar, and his tests were IMPOSSIBLE. refused any type of study guide, and rarely put ANYTHING on the board. not worth it for a 100 level.

I loved Dr. Loomis! He is so smart and truly cares about the subject. The tests can be a little tricky but if you take good notes you should be fine. He is VERY liberal and lets that be known. Don't buy a book, really unnecessary. Overall I'd say definitely take him.

No. Dude took too much acid back in the day. He may actually be the reason i change my major. Half more than half the class failed the first exam and most got C's and D's 2nd exam. Very acquired taste with him. Maybe i just haven't acquired it yet. Still whacked out.

All notes given in class are on the test along with class discussions. If you go to class, take notes, and basically pay attention, you will pass this class. Professor Loomis is a passionate man who is a former journalist, so he knows what he's talking about.
