I took Dr. Hawkins class over 10 years ago. I remember FREAKING out because she seemed like such a tough grader. She pounded grammar into class! She did such a good job, that while I'm studying for the GMAT I am taking the time to review her on here. That's the mark of a good teacher... still using the knowledge you learned a decade later.

Comment:

Spends a majority of class time criticizing her students using harsh descriptions. If you need her to repeat or clarify something she accuses you of being stupid or not listening. A huge work load. 50 notes due everyday. A quiz everyday. She writes corrections and notes on essays but you are not aloud to keep them. An all around unpleasant woman.

She is only difficult if you aren't willing to work for your grade. This is college. You are not special. You do not deserve a cupcake. You don't DESERVE an education, you earn one. I made an A in her class and even was exempt from her final. (BRIT LIT) Would I take her again? Sure. Want an easy A? Go "be a Phoenix."

This person may look like a nice older lady but your eyes won't be fooled for long.Prepare to read everynight, take notes for what you read, and take quizzes every class. She believes she is always correct and students just want it easy. I do not recommend this teacher unless you are prepared to spend hours working towards your good grade.

I was very excited to take this class and read everything necessary. However, she's argumentative and won't allow anyone to be right except herself. Her grading is subjective and though she let us re-write the in-class essay, she didn't tell us exactly what she wanted until after the first draft, which hurt our grade terribly. NOT recommended!

Really not that hard but not that easy either. You really have to work for your grade. Quizzes are almost every class day and they come from the book so you must read it and take notes. I failed alot of quizzes and did average on the essays so I had to study hard for the exam and ended up passing with a B when I thought I was going to fail.

She is most definitely a challenging teacher. She will help you to no ends, if you are nice and ask. She let my Mythology class rewrite our final papers twice after she graded them. Emma Hawkins is my favorite prof in the English department. I advise taking her class. If you can't spell, don't comment here. You failed because you can't spell.

She is a very hard teacher. She expects you to put this class above all others. I am an English major but she made me question it for a little bit. She refers everything to Lord of the Rings and such movies. She is a very hard when it comes to grading. You have to know every detail of what you read, and you read more than you can imagine each night

hands down the hardest teacher and most rediculous class i have even taken part in. i barely pulled a c and that was after i studied...no, memorized...every bit of information needed for her tests. she gives you a rediculous amount of information to obtain and remember throughout the entire semester. and dont let your phone chirp...ever!

I took her for both sections of brit lit. She's a great lady who cares whether or not her students learn. She tells you what will be on the test. It is up to you whether or not you actually study it. It takes work, but you'll certainly come out of the class knowing something new!! :)

This class is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. You have to write things "Ver Batum" on the tests. If you are not willing to study at least 5-7 hours per test...Don't take her. She is very opinionated but...that's the least of anyone's problem. Alot of people dropped the class when I took it. Also, There wasn't a grammer test at the start

I actually liked this class. She goes off on tangents, but she's very passionate about the subject (women's lit). She's available for help if you need it. She's particular, but just come to class, do your work, and know the stories, and she's pretty happy with you. Does require a grammer exam, so brush up before you start.

Everyone occaisionally steps in a steaming, worthless pile of manure. She is that pile. IF we had an A going into the final, we didn't have to take it EXCEPT there's an inane quiz question nearly every day which means the best you can do is 4/5. She is a crazy woman and British Lit is her life and she believes it should be the center of your life too. I am an A student and recieved a C. You have to read about 1,000 lines of poetry each night and she has quizes every day... she asks ?'s like..how many times did the horse's name appear in the book, If you get her, run, run as far as you can!

she is boring, rude, and is not clear or helpful. i had her on tues thurs. classes and you can only miss 2 days before she makes you drop the class, if ur cell goes off at any time during the year u recieve a 0 for the class, and before even being in the class you get 3 chances to pass a taas type grammar exam or you must drop. would not recommend
