I was in his portrait class a few years back. Ernie was very helpful and in portrait class wanted us to do life like portraits and anything less than that was subject to a lower grade because he had the highest expectations. It is with sadness I report that Ernest Paulo Garcia died July 25, 2012. He will be missed. He was a great teacher & artist.

Ernest is a great teacher...He really knows his stuff...Quizes at the begining of the semester are easy but get a little harder as you get deeper into the class...I had 2 spend a lot of time then i expected on this class...Assignments are time consuming and so are his lecture videos,weekly quizzes,and reading...Way to much work...

Terrible. He's nice, but he's a jerk. He will tell you to draw a still life, with almost no more direction than "draw what you see", but then, he will walk around the class, and tell you what he doesn't like about "what you saw" and make you re-do your entire sketch or whatever. He also talks down to you, a bunch. He also is a bit smug.

Great drawing teacher, but you have to work hard to keep up with all the assignments. Don't miss classes or you'll fall behind! Doesn't hand out a lot of A's; I earned mine by having a little bit of natural talent and doing all assignments to the best of my abilities. Really nice guy; contrary to what others have said, his classes are NOT boring.

He was ok. He was pretty good on grading the portfolios, compared to art teachers I've had in the past. He gets angry if you miss class, or especially if you're not prepared!! You must always have your supplies. Sometimes you're required to have stuff that's not even on the list. You're required to do 4 written tests, but isn't it a studio class

Powerpoint lectures, VHS films worn so badly the sound is inaudible. Very easy class to fall asleep in... I was able to learn plenty in the class that was useful. Much of his lectures included bits of history that were not included in the book but were relevant. Would recommend ONLY if you are a non-art major looking for an easy grade.

I'm sure he's great for art history, but not for drawing. At least half of each class was spent going over slides and listening to lecture. If you need an art HISTORY teacher, take him. If you need an ART teacher, take someone else.

He's a genuinely nice guy, but man his class is kinda boring. Don't take him in the early morning cuz you'll go right back to sleep. However I've found him to be a great resource for questions regarding Southwestern art outside of class. If you collect southwestern art or are interested in it he's the man to go to. Just do it outside of class

An absolute pain in the ass, usually seems to pick a couple of students to zero in on and make it difficult for them to create unique pieces of art. Nice personality, probably a great guy outside of the classroom, but a crap teacher. Spends waaaaay too much time talking and is extremely obvious that he thinks he's an amazing artist (though I've yet to see anything I've been impressed with). If you can take it with someone else, DO!!!

Gives you good study guide's, multiple choice test & throw's out low score! He wants you to pass the class. Makes time for any questions you may have, in general, loves teaching art. Can be dry in class, be well rested. Does show a lot of video's, but they are not that bad, better than lecture! You don't really need notes, very good study guide!

He is very boring. Shows videos every single class. He goes off on to the latin or greek meanings of words. Stupid to make student do 8 page paper on gallery visit of 1 painting. I can't write that much about my house. Students constantly looking at clock. He has never finished 1 video on time. Nice guy, but bores the class to death!
