Comment:
After weeks of lectures and dull PowerPoints covering everything from the readings, one of only a few large tests will appear and youll be forced to write an essay (or more) without guidance and based on a vague prompt. His feedback is equally as vague and it seems unlikely that one can get a high score, even when one provides lots of detail.

Horwitz is alright. Just boring as hell. His exams were all essay based but never got anything above a 92%. Overall a good course to get CHC out of the way.

Horwitz has just the right amount of quirkiness that I love in a history buff professor. You can tell he genuinely loves the subject matter. Assignments were mostly just reading.

This man is not specific about what he wants when it comes to tests. He says he wants details, but when you give him details he doesn't give you 100% and then doesn't tell you how to improve. He rambles on with his lectures, not always being clear and rarely gets the class involved. He also didn't bother to learn our classes names.

This professor is very kind, but also comes off as awkward. The class itself is boring, but you can basically choose between reading all of the chapters on the syllabus, or coming to class and listening about what the chapters had included. There's a mid term, one 5-7 page paper, and a final.

Professor Horwitz was entertaining, but he wasn't my favorite. I didn't find the lectures for the history class I took with him particularly interesting, and he always had the oddest metaphors or ways of explaining things. With the way he taught the class, I had to look up most of the historical information by myself. Easy A, though.

Most students who love him are history students with interest and knowledge in the subject. The class was relatively easy, but be prepared to spend over half of class looking at meaningless pictures he found online. He is inconsistent and unclear- overall modern global was easy but Horwitz is not a good professor and the class is frustratingly dull

I can not stress to you enough the importance of taking a Gordon Horwitz class before you leave IWU. If you haven't listened to him tell an awkward joke about his childhood or muse on how much he hates squirrels, you haven't lived life and will never know true happiness.

Great Prof. Took Modern Global History, and it was a breeze. Short readings each night, and definitely not mandatory, as he reviews the readings in a PP each day. A bit quirky, but a nice and incredibly intelligent man. 85% of Grade comes from three tests, so if that stresses you, beware.

I love him! I wasn't sure in the beginning of the semester, but he grew on me. His passion for history is contagious and his teaching style makes class more interesting. History can be dry, but his personality makes class interesting. He's very understanding and loves working with students. I can't wait to take another class with him!

AMAZING PROFESSOR! Almost frighteningly intelligent and makes hilarious (and somewhat awkward) jokes in class that will make you die laugh. As long as you're willing to put in the amount of time needed to study for his tests, you can pull off an A or A- no problem. Seriously, take this man before you leave IWU. I've already had him three times!

I absolutely adore this man. He is extremely knowledgeable and really wants to share that with his students. He can be a bit dry at times so I would recommend trying to take classes with him that you're already interested in. Tests are easy if you read and pay attention. He also is very quirky and has cute little mannerisms that are just awesome.

Sometimes i fell asleep, im not gunna lie. but He makes classes fun as well as very informational. He will test you on only what he talks about in class and he is a fair grader. If you put forth effort you will succeed in his class.

Very passionate teacher and his knowledge is almost unfathomable. He may be a bit dry at the beginning of the semester, but give him time. He'll really start to grow on you when you see how much he cares about his students. The tests are pure memorization and aren't overly difficult. Besides tests, there is nothing besides reading assignments.

This man is incredibly boring. All he does is quote authors (usually from what you just read) and read off of powerpoints. The tests, while not too hard, are over literally hundreds of years of material. Don't put yourself through his classes if you can avoid them.

He is a nice guy, and god knows he tries, but his lectures can be really boring. Still, he's obviously passionate about the subject and if you go to class and do the readings you should get a pretty good grade.
