Okay, he knows his stuff and is passionate. LOTS of reading and papers (weekly), midterm (8p), and lesson plans with a pres. My main issue was the lack of clarity of what to do. Rubric/syllabus says one thing and what he says changes every-time you ask. Granted it's doable but don't expect to half it and get an A. You will WORK for it!

I graduated with my Undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College and I am now pursuing my Graduate degree at Brooklyn College. In my entire college career Professor Haroon is by far the best professor that I have ever had! He makes the class extremely interesting and is extremely brilliant. The amount of knowledge that this man has is incredible!

Professor Haroon is the MAN! I honestly do not understand any of the poor ratings that were given. The history taught in class is essential for teaching in NYC public schools. Most students looking for teaching positions will obtain a job in an underserviced area. You will need the knowledge that he is dropping. It's vital so pay attention!

AMAZING person!! Very helpful, very caring! He takes the time to respond to e-mails or meet with you in his office. Very inspirational person. He knows so many people and so much history! There is a lot of reading, but its good. He is very big on discussion in the classroom and presentations.

No structure. Learned nothing about elementary social studies education. Completely ignored the syllabus. But I did learn a lot about slavery in NY...which will do me a lot of good teaching in elementary school. He made a few good points about teaching, but mainly they applied to higher grades which he has more experience with...

Focuses on discussions aimed at questioning and deconstructing our assumptions about culture, heroism, partial understandings of US history, and teaching styles. Readings mostly on history of slavery in NY, lots of research for Unit plan. Topics presented & discussion will make you consider what education is all about, if you let it in.

The professor stimulates great discussion in the classroom. The reflection assignments regarding the reading are simple enough. The instructions for the midterm/final project were not clear, but we made it through with an A on the midterm. He covered one specific topic during the entire semester. The point is to think critically & creatively.

no structure and just teaches his own agenda. I learned nothing about elementary social studies education, instead we discussed world issues at large with no specific aim in mind. I have no idea what grade to expect as he has no grading rubric.

Prof. is not clear about any assignment. Never grade any of your work that he returns back during the semester. The only grade you get is the final grade. Never responds to emails. NO HELP AT ALL!

If you care about urban issues, then you will want to take any class with him. Gives lots of information that requires critical thinking. Very laid back class as well. You will enjoy any class that you take with him if you care about the issues.
