Took this during covid and as long as you go over the powerpoints and skim through the textbook you will be good. I suggest reading the textbook because it makes the tests much easier but you really do not have to as long as you have notes from the powerpoints.

The professor was great and explained things very nicely during lectures. It's an asynchronous class though and meetings are done by TAs. Lots of reading for this class and only a few quizzes so you have to do well on the exams in order to get a good grade.

He is an okay professor but his course is easy. Your grade is based on the average of 3 exams. One exam can be replaced with an optional exam if you do poorly. There are weekly discussion sections where you can get up to 5 extra credit points total. The professor shares a lot of extra info, so focus on the study guide so you don't feel overwhelmed

Lectures drag, dreaded watching them, put them on 1.5x and read the slides. I never watched the lectures until 1-2 days before an exam. Most exam questions come right from the slides, some questions are easy things he talks about. He very obviously loves linguistics, would probably be a better class in person

This class was the easiest gen ed I've ever taken. He gives you everything you need to do well on exams. There was no required textbook reading, and all I did to prepare for exams was go over the slides a couple of times and fill out the study guide. I could also tell that he and my TA really wanted students to do well.

LING 1010 is super easy just watch the lectures and go to discussion and you will get an A. The grades are an average of 3 exams and if you do bad there's an optional final that replaces it. Also the quizzes are optional and can get you up to 5 points of extra credit. If you did well in PSYC1100 you'll do just as fine here, especially online.

Never watched a single lecture and still did good on exams. Review the powerpoints and take this for an easy gen ed.

I only took this course online, and it was pretty okay. The recorded video lectures were nice because I could watch them on my own time and the material was presented relatively clearly. The material was kind of more confusing than expected for a gen ed course, but it got easier as the semester went on. The content was interesting

I took this class online during May term and it was so much work. Every day we had chapters to read, summaries to write, and discussion boards to participate in so you have to stay on top of your work. It is a lot to do but it is quick and a good way to get some credits out of the way. Overall, a good class just be prepared to work.

He was very boring, but the class was quite easy. He definitely knows a lot about linguistics. Your entire grade is 3 of your 4 best tests, plus an extra 8% if you do the bonus quizzes and experiments, so it really is not hard to get a good grade. Take this for an easy gen ed.

Not the best professor, the lecture is pretty boring, most of the materials are common sense stuff. But you gotta defined a lot of terms.

One of the worst professors I have ever had. The material he teaches is very simple and easy to understand, but the way he teaches it makes it very difficult to understand and convoluted. You can easily tell that he tries to make the material more complex in order to create a perception that linguistics is a very "sophisticated" topic.

This class was very easy in my opinion. There are only 3 tests, and a bonus exam that can replace you lowest test score. Each week in discussion there are 2 question quizzes which can earn you up 5 EC points on your final grade. Lectures are sometimes dry but the content is still interesting. Good professor that wants you to get good grades

Took the honors section of this class and it was the most boring 2.5 hours of my life but at least it was only once a week. He talks a lot and the majority of the class is zoned out. At least the class is easy. Theres 3 exams and 5 optional bonus points added to your final grade if you write reflections on the textbook readings.

I have no interest in Linguistics and only took it as a Gen Ed to get an A. Can't comment on the large lecture but for the honors section, it was so easy to get an A if you attended every lecture. Gives up to 5 points to your FINAL GRADE if you write weekly reflections. Take home exams and finals. Like come on, what more do you need with a Gen Ed?

His lectures are incredibly dry, and it's not just because of the content. He is incredibly knowledgeable in his field but that causes him to go off-track constantly. You are graded on basically only the three exams, but he does allow you to take a bonus cumulative exam at the end that can replace your worst exam score.

He lectures as if he's having a conversation about Linguistics to someone who already has a background on it. Worst professor in terms of teaching you anything. You can take up to 4 exams with and he chooses the average of the 3 highest scores and that's your grade plus up to 8 points of EC. It requires some effort to get an A, but it's doable.

I enjoyed Ling1010 with him and thought that the class was easy and interesting. The only exams are 2 midterms, a final, and a bonus exam that can replace your lowest exam score. There are also quizzes every week in discussion that count as extra credit. As long as you go to lectures and follow along with the slide printouts, you'll be fine.

The exam took you very long time to prepare and you may still get a bad grade. Lecture was boring and not useful for preparing the exam. As a gen Ed, it was too difficult. THE EASY LING 1010 COURSE IS NOT THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!! Harry Van Der Hulst is a fun and nice guy. But my only suggestion is avoiding his class.
