Comment:

Katja is one of the best professors at UNM. She is a well of knowledge and her expertise is as vast as it is wide. Every class I have taken with her, I have left speaking better German and an expanse of new knowledge. She cares deeply about her students and wants them to reach their full potential. Take a class with her if you get the chance!

Comment:

I took this film class with Katja and loved it. It was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken, and I learned loads about East Germany while watching some entertaining movies. She expects you to participate and write well. If you can do that, you'll succeed. She's an intelligent, funny, and nice professor. Wish I could take her again.

Do not be intimidated by Katja. Although many students have complained about how intimidating she is, she actually a very nice person and is very willing to help her students learn. My German has improved so much thanks to her class. Give her a chance--you will learn a lot!

Professor Schroeter is an excellent teacher and I've been taking her classes for a very long time. She goes WELL out of her way to tailor classes to individual student interests and encourages students to come to office hours whenever possible. Her classes aren't easy, but she's extremely fair and always interesting.

Comment:

Katja impressed me at first with her obvious knowledge in her field and a witty sense of humour. This, however, was short-lived as her intimidating side turned into borderline unprofessional and rude. I respect a professor who has the knowledge but I do not respect one who cannot teach. I will not be taking another course with her.

A very tough professor. I admire her strength and extensive knowledge, but at times she can be too intimidating which is ultimately disruptive to learning any subject; if the teacher seems hostile or unapproachable.

I've taken many classes with Katja. She is incredibly intimidating and exemplifies that German bluntness. She expects a lot of her students, but is very fair (perhaps too fair) when it comes to grading. While I was, at first, very unimpressed by her, I've found myself actually learning a hell-of-a-lot from her. Katja's an excellent professor!

Comment:

A class on Vampires...Sounds great! But the papers can be kind of difficult. She was good with working with me, but I always felt a little uncomfortable approaching her. She can be intimidating. But, over all, I got a good grade in the class, learned a lot, and enjoyed myself. I would recommend the class. She's nice and funny.

Katja is a very tough professor-but just in the way a professor should be! She's legitimately interested in teaching her students and does her best to make sure everybody is keeping up and doing what they're supposed to. Ultimately, she's one of my favorite professors at UNM, and I definitely suggest her class to anybody willing to work and learn!

Strict grader but she is passionate and fun. All our classes turned into great discussions that ultimately taught us a lot. She is very blunt so don't take it personally. She will teach you a lot if you are willing to learn.

Very helpful to her students, but at the same time disorganized. Prof. Schroter has a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm, but her classes are unstructured and it's not clear what will really be covered or not. She assigns tons of reading, but not all of it is even discussed or important. If only there were some focus or thoroughness!
