Literally the worst professor I've ever taken at IVC. Super condescending and sarcastic, and one of the toughest graders I've ever dealt with. His expectations are extremely unclear, as I got points knocked off every paper for things that followed his prompt. I got an A in Writing 2 with a different prof, take that as you will. Avoid if you can

Comment:

Professor Culhane is a wonderful professor. In his class you'll learn about the history of American culture, which is actually extremely interesting. His class will help you learn how to be a better writer and will definitely prepare you for writing 2. The papers assigned have extremely clear prompts. I would definitely take this professor again.

Great class!passed with an A, easy to write essays. Mr Culhane explains his assignments extremely well!very few essays compared to other classes. would take him for writing 2 if he offered it. very knowledgeable about the essay topics so he gives great background. show up to class, take notes on the assignment and you'll pass with flying colors!

Overall professor culhane is clear and gives a lot of useful feedback on your writing. His class gives students the opportunity to learn about topics like baseball and jazz . Something that you really don't learn in a writing class. You Must attend class and if you take notes your writing assignment will not be difficult. Take his class

I tested into this class and have always had high grades in writing courses. I recieved a D from him. That's the lowest grade I've ever recieved. He doesn't allow you to think freely, you either do as he says or you fail. There is a bit a favoritism which is what will likely salvage my grade a bit. If you don't have to take him, don't.

I really liked Culhane's class. I thought his class wasn't too difficult, actually pretty easy. He lays everything out for you. I don't know why his ratings are low? Learned a lot and recommend!

Very clear teacher. As long as you follow his guidelines and prompt, this class is easy to pass. You must have good writing skills, but he helps you so much during the process. My writing and analyzing skills have improved so much. Highly recommend taking this class! :) (he's also very funny and entertaining!!)

Had a great experience in his class. We had 4 papers and I got B's on the first 2, and A's on the last 2. Attendance is mandatory. Assignments are not difficult & he practically walks you through the papers. I took the class P/NP, and passed easily. He was really nice and gave me good advice for my papers. Definitely recommend!

Culhane really knows how to make you think critically. I am almost done with my summer semester in his class and it has been a good experience. 4 essay assignments ranging from 1.5-4 pages. No other hw or classwork. He Does get a little angry when he has to continually repeat himself, who doesn't? Not easiest grader, but the goal is to pass.

Comment:

Clear instructor who tells students exactly what he is expecting in his assignments. His guidelines are not difficult what-so-ever, just follow them and you will do well. Culhane really prepares students for WR 1! Very interested in Rock Music and shares classics with the class which is awesome. Go to class, follow instruction, you will do great!

Culhane is a good teacher! He is very chill. Class is not difficult! This is coming from a mediocre writer. His essays are creative and really make you critically think, which is good prep for WR 1! Follow his instructions and you will do great- DUH! People who bash this guy are those who just simply can't understand instruction. Recommend!

I got an A in his class but i would'nt take him again if i had the option. I'm a decent writer; however, he is very very old school and you must conform to his writing style or you wont pass the class. His way or the highway. If you have an option, DONT take him!!

Professor Culhane is a very cool teacher, he knows music, Robert Johnson, the Stones. His assignments are intriguing and unique. He knows a lot about writting and taking his class helped me develop and strengthen my skills for wri 1. A very enjoyable class and excellent teacher.

Worst teacher ever. Followed exactly his outline yet I still receive a C on every single paper. I have A's in all my other classes. I get A's on all my other class' essays and yet after his review of my essay for his class (which he "looks forward to reading") still gives my essay a C. This teacher is the worst. Do yourself a favor, don't take him.
