I advise taking someone else! Tony Gifford is very dull. Almost all his classes are so boring that they make you want to sleep. His favorite joke is " They're no losers we offer this class every semester." He is very stubborn and doesn't really think outside the box.

Comment:

A simple guy who cares about his students. Warning: NO PHONES! You write 4 papers and are given the opportunity to rewrite 2 at the end of the semester if needed. The later one you rewrite is the final. If you don't want to rewrite you don't have to go to the final. Very easy to work with. Go to his office for tremendous amounts of help on papers!!

WOW. I thought I was a good writer until I took Mr. Gifford. His class is really hard but in the end it makes you a better writer. He is kinda arrogant and he knows it as well. Just ask a lot of questions and go to his office hours for the papers. He wants you to ask questions.

Fast paced, does not answer questions clearly, lab practicals were harder than tests. Gave no bonus points. quizzes every week. Had to study my butt off. Does not go by book but powerpoints, take lots of notes.

I would not recommend taking his class. He told our class if we have everything he asks for in the paper it's a solid C but couldn't tell us what else we needed in the paper to receive a higher grade. I went to his office for help on my first paper and he didn't even bother reading it. Likes to call students out in front of the entire class.

Gifford is very strict on missing class and feels the need to pick on those who don't participate. You will not pass if you skip his class and he takes attendance everyday. His papers are on difficult subjects and he grades them very hard. He is my least favorite professor.

Comment:

Gifford is a harrrdddd grader. He assigns only four papers all semester but if you don't "meet all the requirements" he won't even grade it. You are able to rewrite 2 papers at the end and there are like 10 journal entries that are easy that add up to 50 pts I think. I would recommend him but also recommend that you use his office hours for help.

Dr. Gifford is a good proffessor he just assigns difficult papers. I'm a pretty good writer but he made me think that I was horrible. It's best to take advantage of his office hours. GO TO THE WRITING CENTER!!! They helped me with my first paper. Attendance is highly important. 4 papers overall, can rewrite 2, 10 journal enteries worth 50pts.

DO NOT TAKE HIM! He's the strictest grader I've ever had. I have always done well in writing classes (even comp 1), but he killed any pleasure I found in the writing process. I'm going to have to use grade forgiveness for this course. Nice guy, but not worth taking.

Gifford is anal about attendance. If you miss more than 6 times, he drops you. He's notorious for dropping more than 30 people per semester. He will use every minute of the hour and talk about who cares what. He is a great teacher, though. If you want someone who challenges you, take him. Go to his office before every paper if you want good grades

Gifford assigns four papers for the semester and two you can re-write. It is possible for you to go down a grade for your re-writes so be careful. He isn't helpful at all he says you have mistakes but wont you where. DO NOT TAKE HIM

We had 4 papers- "What it means to be educated", song analysis, division & classification, and cause & effect. You get 2 rewrites at the end of the year which is very helpful. BUT he did make me cry one day after yelling at me. He likes to pick on people and talks about his son ALL the time. I wouldn't take him again, but his class wasn't too hard.

Mr. Gifford is the best writing teacher I've ever had. He's really nice and he is super helpful. I've gone to his office for every paper and he always reads my drafts and gives great suggestions. I have an A now because of that. Seriously, if you take this class GO TO HIS OFFICE! He'll know you care and he'll help you write a great paper.

Really Hard on grading. Gives you a lot of time to do your papers but has only given out one 100 on a paper... that paper ended up getting published. i went to the writing center 5 or 6 times on a paper and only received a 80

Gifford is very helpful (if you ask for help)! He's a tough grader, but you have a chance to re-write 2 out of the 4 papers that you've turned in! His class isn't an easy A, but you'll learn a lot.

Very good teacher. Listens to you and helps in any way possible. Gives very good criticism, and is by no means an easy A. Attendance is HIGHLY recommended - he assigns journal rights to ensure this, and you never know when it's going to happen. You write 4 papers, but he lets you rewrite 2 at the end. I recommend him to anyone!!

He is a pretty good teacher overall. He is helpful if you ask. Also if you attend classes it helps you out in the long run. He is a little opinionated and at times it seems you are writing for him specifically, but in his class you will learn a lot about writing, and it's not the worst class to attend.

He's tough. He grades extremely hard. But he's helpful. I still can't tell you what he expected from me, and I never made above a C on a paper. But there's something ab him that makes you like him. Or me anyways.
