I took English 101 with him during my first semester in college and I still think of him as the best teach that I have ever had. He made us think and encouraged a comfortable environment to discuss and brainstorm. I still think that the papers that I wrote in the class are the best ones that I have ever written.

It's college... you're going to have homework! Weekly journal and reading to prepare you for papers. He's always available to help you and grades fairly. Class discussions are interesting and will help you write the papers if you pay attention and keep up with reading. If you put in effort you'll learn how to write better for all your classes

This teacher is terrible. He constantly talks trash on his father and sister at random times, his lectures are dry and he likes to embarrass people. If you work or do anything besides school it will be very difficult for you to pass because he is not very understanding. If you can choose a different teacher do it!

People would love to complain that he assigns work, so what, tough it up, this is college& he just wants us to be critical thinkers. Yes there is lots of reading& essays, just stay on top of it. he is sincere& always makes time available for us & makes sure we dont leave confused. He's great just dont think this is high school to slack off in class

Professor Isbell expects students to work. You can't expect to not do the reading and pass; don't be a moron. It's an English class, so expect quite a bit of reading and classes are mainly devoted to discussions. Be prepared for two argumentative essays and a 10-12 page research paper. It's hard work, but this is college.

Isbell, is a cool guy, but a TERRIBLE professor!! Here is why: he doesn't grade work and he lacks structure. Be prepared to read an absurd amount, type a weekly journal (15 to be specific), have 2 in class writings, and a 10-12 page research paper. My only advice is to not take his class. Do not be fooled by the previous comments. Trust me!

Dont take him if you arent an english major. He expects a 10-12 pg research paper on top of 60 pgs of reading/nite. While reading another book + 7 essays all @ the same time. This is not a class for someone who struggles w/ writing (me). Cool dude but sooo much work and stress. He had a 25% pass rate the semester before me he said. Super hard class

He goes by Jim instead of James and it always there when you have questions. If you aren't able to ask him in class he's always able to help you via email. All the work is on Blackboard and make sure you do the reading! There's a lot of it so don't procrastinate! Overall chill teacher and is understanding.

I took Isbell's Intro to Lit. class a year ago while earning my A.A. in business admin. After this class, I transferred to university to study English lit. Isbell was always there to talk if need be. Guy's got heart. Just buy the book, be prepared, do the reading. As I remember, there were two larger papers, weekly journals, and a final exam.

Isbell is such a great guy. He really wants to see his students prosper and open their minds to reality. He is a tough grader, but is willing to work with you and help you get that A. Do the homework, put time into the essays, and participate in class and you'll be fine. At worst you'll get a B with minimal effort, but an A requires a lot of effort

He wants you to participate within the class. If you're confused, ASK! He won't give out answers without you asking. I love his class coz it taught me critical thinking and many other things that I never learned before. follow his instructions and don't be shy to ASK, then you'll do fine in this class. I got B and I'm happy with it.

Easy B. Do journals each week. Use topic sentences, analyze quotes, and conclude sentences. Not a bad class if you are fine with B or C. You need prior knowledge of how to write and this class is pretty easy. Attendance is necessary especially if you do not read the book. Use noodle tools to do works cited. Not too bad if people participate.

journals are due every week. must buy the textbook. Do the journals if i had one them would have received a better grade. especially since they are easy. participate in the discussions. only assignments were reading the book, 4 essays, journals every week, a final in class essay and a research paper. take english with another professor if possible.

He is a great teacher and makes you thing critically.I would not take his class if you are not prepared for a lot of writing and reading every week. He expects a lot form his students. If you dont like writing a lot of essays or reading every week do NOT take his class. This is probably the hardest class i have taken
