Great professor who loves teaching. Very involved (field studies, field trips, etc.). Really cares if students learn. Fun professor. So sad she's retiring. By far the best professor I've ever had.

Jan is one of the best profs i've EVER had. she really wants her students to succeed, and constantly goes over important material to ensure you understand EVERYTHING. you will have to put some effort into the class & the textbook is mandatory due to ch. quizzes. TAKE HER! I would most def. take any other courses she would teach :)

This class is fun and easy. She tries her best to keep everyone interested and tells some funny stories. Although it may take her awhile to set up her powerpoints...You should go to class because she repeatedly goes over main topics. She does a lot to help out her students get good grades.

Anyways, It was my first year at SJSU and Jan is a great teacher, she is passionate about her teaching and is a tough like everyone says! Do get her if you want a challenge ;)

Not so bad like the previous comments. Coming to lecture is mandatory because it'll be hard to study for exams if miss out any one of them. Make use of videos, field trips, and guest speakers to help understand the course better. Exams are not so hard and not so easy. Just need to study hard to do well on them.

i loved this class! Jan kept the class very interesting. I would suggest not to miss any classes because you will regret it! Her lectures are vital info. You do NEED the book. Her midterms are difficult so you have to study hard! but overall it was an interesting and enjoyable class.

Professor Hagemann is awesome. Her lectures are always very interesting, and she keeps the class upbeat. Try not to miss class because she uses a lot of the lectures on her exams. Use the website that goes along with the book. It will help you prepare for any of the exams. Do all the assignments and study, and you'll do fine. I recommend this class

Professor Hagemann truly is an asset to S.J.S.U. she is extremely knowledgable and passionate about the justice studies field. The outlines for the lectures are online so all you have to do is add to them during lecture. She made class interesting and fun by having guest speakers, videos, and field trips. Grades very fairly. Take her if you can!!!!

Jan is AWESOME! I heard so many negative comments about her, but I have never had someone teach a class that loves it as much as she does. Somehow you remember what she teaches. REALLY NICE & helpful. the only prof. in JS that can compare with Prof. Cleveland. Those two are definately the best professors in SJSU. I wish she still taught JS 104!!!

I graduated 5 years ago and to this day, Jan is by far the best instructor I have ever had. She cares and seems to love what she does. She is fair and was always willing to go that extra mile for her students. But you have to work in her class, no free rides. I only wish every professor could be like her.

Even though she lays out what's going to be on the exams, I found them hard and didn't do very well. However, if you go to class often, there are extra pts you can pick up easily (quizzes, video questions). We had 2 papers. I think as long as you can write well and express you own ideas, she gives you a good grade. I got an A- in the class.
