Comment:

Ms. Riven is an amazing individual and an expert on corporate governance. She treats students with respect and knows how to explain the material well. One of the few professors at Concordia who is actually really good at what they do and not there for the money. I would suggest this class to MBA students, even if they are not interested in topic.

This professor is an expert in corporate governance matters. An extremely experienced and professional person. Loved attending her class. Participation is a must. Good chance of getting an A- or A if you proactively participate in class discussions.

Do the readings AND try to participe in class, you will be fine. She is very interesting and helping in understading the concepts for the exams. In fact, if you listen, you will be more than ready for the exams.

She's probably one of the best teachers I've had at Concordia. She emphasizes class participation. She is nice and willing to help you understand. She'll give you your midterm exams back. If you feel you deserve a better grade and can show why, head straight to her office. If you're willing to read and participate in class, you'll do fine.

One of the best teachers I had, Do what she askes you to do, read the material & Participate in the class , you will do great. Her course outlines are very good and she follows them .She is great person and very helpfull. go to her office hours and ask as many question you want. THE BEST.

Nice lady, grades exams fairly. However, make sure you participate a lot since she is really tough when it comes to the participation grade which is out of 10. If you don't participate a lot, you will get a 1/10, and some got 0 although they attend class.

Anyone that gives her a bad rating, it’s just because they are bitter. She’s a great teacher, wants people to do well. Gives good notes. Sometimes she’s a hard marker but if you put a decent effort in the class you can get a good grade. You have to participate in class discussions though.

Did not enjoy her class was very inconsistent with her marking. I had similar answer to some of my fellow classmates but received a lower grade. Got a B- in the class which is the lowest grade in 30 credits completed to date... Even after meeting with her several times, explanation about grading system were vague. Learn most from reading text.

very nice teacher with patience. She's good at explaining complex contents in a simple and clear words. Also, She respects individuals without prejudice. Although her classes and exam are more challenging, you could get a satisfying mark if you make an all-out effort.

Janis Riven is a nice lady, very professional. Little experience in teaching. Not always easy to catch what she really wants. Sometimes shy or nervous in front of the class. Nice perpetual smile.A lot of reading. Try to get into a good group.Good marks when you justify your claim (no right or wrong!). Travels a lot...

I find the below comment very arrogant. Don't brag when you got an 80% because the rest of the class might have gotten a way better than that. You have to study hard for this class. you really need to keep up with the class because you have a lot of reading to do(min. 5h of reading/week). But if you study regularly, you can get an A+.

If you don't get at least a B+ in this course there's something wrong with you. She is extremely helpful and there is very little material to study for the final exam. You'll have to read a lot though so I hope you like reading. If you read your stuff and you know what the author is saying, you'll get an A for sure. This class is very subjective.

Good teacher wit a lot of hands on experince. Work hard, get a good group and participate more in class and you won't go wrong. Difficult marker but she respects you opinion for as long as you can support it
