Comment:

Professor Johnston is honestly a quality professor. As with many of the finances course at App, they're tough but Johnston truly cares about the topic and cares for all of his students. Beware of the first exam though as it's harder than made out to be. He also almost always lets out early which is clutch.

Comment:

My God, Professor Johnston's class was so problematic. His video lectures are supposed to prepare you for the quizzes. The quizzes are supposed to prepare you for the exam review and the exam review is meant to prepare you for his test. Each one fails at their job. He'll change up the wording just to trip you up. The purpose behind this? Beats me.

Comment:

I had professor Johnston in online intro to finance and his class was very hard. Tests are most of your grade and you have to take your tests outside of class at a proctoring location. His grading is made up of 80 percent tests and 20 percent quizzes.I spent a lot of time with his class every week and I have a 3.5 GPA. Good luck!

Comment:

Just read the book. His videos are a chore to get listen to and his constant smacking and swallowing will drive you crazy. But worse than that, the book honestly just does a better job at teaching the material. Makes me wonder what we needed him for. Warning, his quizzes do very little to prepare you for his tests and they're paid and proctored.

Comment:

The class was super difficult in the beginning, since I had never done anything with the material before. I found watching his videos on ASUlearn was way better for comprehension because you can pause and rewind if you get confused. Ask for extensions if you miss the quiz! He's very forgiving, and is willing to work with you.

It takes a lot for a professor to make me not interested in a class when I am incredibly interested in the subject matter. Johnston did just that. Very boring teaching style, doesn't engage the class at all. Expect boring lectures, writes the answers to the HW on the board without going through the problem thoroughly. Gives pop quizzes.

Must pay to take tests (not joking). No homework only quizzes and exams. No pdf files or documents to study. Only boring videos of him talking. Material is rather difficult. Especially if you struggle at all with math and formulas. Highly suggest you avoid his class if you can. I couldn't and now my GPA suffers because of it. Thanks AppState.

I am at the end of this class I took it online. I currently have a 110/100 in his class. There is no homework only quizzes and exams. Sometimes there are practice quizzes before the actual quiz. If taking it online watch his videos you do not really need the textbook. You will need to give a day to studying for the exams. There are curves and EC.

He is a really nice guy, doesn't care about attendance, gives study guides for all of his tests, is willing to answer any questions and provide help. But, while there is no homework, he gives out a ton of online quizzes (2-3/week typically) with a 4-hour time limit and you will use at least 1 & 1/2 hr on most of them, they are typically difficult.

Professor Johnston was very difficult to work with throughout the semester. There was zero back and forth communication in class, just him lecturing us. Be prepared to study for days before the test and have your exams picked apart little by little. Oh yeah, and 90% of your grade is based off of exams, so have fun with that!

I really enjoyed Professor Johnston. He teaches really well and he's a funny guy. There's usually 2-3 quizzes per week. No homework, but tests are about 75% of your grade. Doesn't really curve tests but offers 5-10 points of extra credit problems on each one. I have to retake this class (my fault) and it will be with him again. Buy a financial calc

Sweet dude. But his lectures are not structured, there are no real notes, he just talks and writes a bunch of numbers (no words ever to explain the numbers) on the board and i cannot learn without some sort of logical structure and sequence. If you learn independently, 10/10, however...I dont.

Such a great professor. I switched my major because of how much he made me enjoy finance. His study guides are great and he teaches you exactly what you need to know for quizzes and exams. He doesn't make attendance mandatory, but going is really beneficial because the examples he gives are exactly what you'll see on an exam. Very helpful too.

Took an online class, all material was taught by videos. There is no homework to practice, just quizzes and tests. Exams are tougher with added material not included in exam review. Worst of all we have to find proctors and pay for them out of our own pockets for each exam which is inconsiderate of students who have to travel to complete an exam.

Not my favorite subject, some chapters were difficult for me personally but he gives you all the tools you need to complete quizzes and test. Took the class online and he post videos with examples for every chapter. There were two test and he posted study guides with examples for both. Emailed me back quickly every time I contacted him.

Comment:

Tough class b/c it requires a lot of dedication & time. Weekly videos & readings are super time-consuming. Tends to derail & talk about stuff that makes lessons much more confusing & later mentions that it's not something we needed to know. Over 75% of the grade is composed of exam grades. You can get through it by making time & applying yourself.

Decent professor. Use his study guide and you will do fine on the test. Curves test grades. You will have six quizzes however, two are completing extra credit. He is very nice and helpful.

Anyone who says his class was hard just didn't show up to class. If you show up to class he teaches you all the math and goes over lots of practice problems for the tests. There are lots of online quizzes which are harder than the tests. For the concepts on the quizzes and tests READ THE TEXTBOOK. He also gives amazing study guides for the tests.

This teacher is HARD, gives study guides and they are NOTHING like the test. Test heavy with concept questions. Do not take him...I am currently making a 72 and I have a 3.5 GPA....
