Comment:
Metcalf's class was amazing. However the class is student driven, so he doesn't actually do a lot of lecturing. That being said as long as you do the few assignments and show up you'll pass. There is only one paper and it seemed to be graded very kindly.

Jeff is one of the funniest professors I've met at the U. His adolescent lit class is very easy. The homework load is minimal and you only have to write one paper. However, to get the most out of the class, you have to read a lot and participate in discussions. That being said, I merely skimmed most books and avoided reading some entirely

Jeff Metcalf is the best teacher I had at the U of U. I took a number of classes from him. I'd recommend taking a class from him to learn about life in general, though you'll of course learn the subject matter as well. Take as many Metcalf classes as you can. Shoot for the "Metcalf Minor." (a joke meaning you've taken all his classes)

Jeff is an awesome person with really interesting life stories and experience. He is inclusive and takes on a lot of interesting projects. However, his class is stressful as there is no syllabus or structure. In addition, he doesn't always use class time to teach, leaving students to figure things out for themselves.

Greatest professor I've ever had at the U. Hands down. While the class was structured so the students taught more than he did, he had lots of valuable teaching moments and feedback to give the class. If you have a chance to take a class from Metcalf, do it. It'll be the greatest class you've ever taken.

Metcalf is the best professor I've ever had. He's intelligent, hilarious, and invested in his students. You do this together. This Methods of Teaching class was so enlightening and I learned so much from him and from my classmates. This class will make all the difference in my future career as a teaching. Metcalf will change your life.

Metcalf is an amazing teacher with so many life experiences, you want to BE him. This was the first time he taught this class so it was a little scattered, but he really focused on what the students (as future teachers) would need when they begin their careers. The lesson plans I will get from this class will be invaluable in the future.

Jeff Metcalf is the most incredible professor I've ever had. I've taken all of his classes (they also fulfill credits in the english major) the man is a big influence on who I want to be as a teacher and he's become a great friend and ally in my education. Remarkable person, take anything you can from him.

I had Metcalf for Play Construction and he is the best professor I have ever had. He treats you like an equal, is inspiring and knowledgeable all at the same time. He truly wants all of his students to succeed. He is hilarious and gives great feedback. His good attitude also carried over to the students so the class is always fun and engaging.

Professor Metcalf is the best professor I have ever had. Not only does he inspire students, but he is also passionate about the literature he teaches as well as truly caring about each of his students. He treats students as adults, capable of thought and feeling. I almost wish I wasn't graduating, so that I could take more classes from him!

He is an inspiration as a teacher and mentor. He truly cares about educating his students and has been intricately involved in so many humanitarian movements. I hope I can be half as effective as him when I am teaching in the classroom.

Great teacher! Not only will you learn a lot and study great material, you will have so much fun! He makes class really fun. Attendance is important, and in both classes I took from him, he made it very clear, verbally and in the syllabus. Like any good college teacher, he will not baby you but he does want you to succeed.

Metcalf is a great guy and this course was a blast, but he never meantioned that attendance was mandatory (which resulted in my getting a lower grade than I expected). This felt very unfair to me. Take this as a warning-you must go to every class.

I have 2 classes with him this semester; I can honestly say that they are both of my favorites! He is super understanding if you have late work and he is a great teacher with a fresh view on how teaching should be. His assignments are always meaningful, I appreciated how little busy work there was. He is super hilarious too.
