She can be spacey at times, but is the sweetest professor! I'm sad that she is leaving AU! Although I will say her tests are extremely difficult, and i believe the average class grade was 85%. Really pay attention and you will learn so much from her! And i disagree, I believe she really lets the students share their opinions.

She knows her stuff on the Andes and such. I think she was a great professor, minus her absent-professor characteristic. Exams were fine, make sure you read the text and go to class for her lectures. If you get to know her outside of class she is a great person. I think this was one my best courses this semester, I loved it.

Culture Area Analysis -really spacey, always late to class, but knows the content really well. he test arn't that hard it's just figuring out what to study, because they're sort of random lectures and readings.

She is brilliant, if unconventional. A good teacher and a wonderful mentor who knows how to ask the right questions.

Love Joan, but I agree, somewhat spacey and has a hard time keeping focused. As a grad student who works Full time, and lives far away from the city, found it very frustrating that she didn't accept papers via email...not very accomodating...but overall, learned a lot from her.

She presents a lot of interesting material. I would be confident in assuming that she is a much better anthropologist than she is teacher, as it is sometimes painful to watch her struggle through her lectures and unsuccessfully attempt to maintain students' attention. Very sweet though; abstract thinker, but knows her stuff. TA Jenny is fantastic!

makes me wonder about the response papers. i ok for not being accepted if turned in late, but if you cant come to class on a certain day, you can't email them, nor submit them early.. you have to have them physically submitted on that same day, by a frien

Often seems unable or unwilling to take charge of the class, so things can get kind of confusing. However, she is very friendly, and seems interested in what you have to say. Tests were not that difficult.
