Prof. Baker is an excellent professor and she is very clear on what is expected of you. She provides a ton of extra credit so if you dont pass this class with an A then thats your fault. I will say that when it comes to grading reports, she takes a very long time and that can be frustrating.

Comment:

She seems tough because she cares about what she teaches. I took her for multiple classes and I believe she is one of the best vocal professors. She pushes hard and it results in higher quality work. I feel as though I developed a better vocal technique through her instruction.

Comment:

I definitely enjoyed taking her choral conducting class. I learned a lot and it is not hard to improve if you follow what she is telling you and come to class each day. If you miss a day, make sure to ask others what you've missed so you don't fall behind, and make sure to practice conducting the harder pieces at home. Memorization is doable!

Dr. Baker doesn't know the proper vocal warm ups. She does "humming warm ups" which actually tense the voice. Even though she cares about students learning, she has mood swings and it is hard learning with someone who always gets upset over insignificant things.

A lot of people don't care for Dr. Baker but I personally think she is great. She is funny and helps you when you need it. You learn scales pretty much the whole time but if you do what you are supposed to do the class will be a breeze.

Dr. Baker has personality. She loved sharing stories about herself and Mr. Bach. Also, she shared a lot about the history of the piece. Yes, she can get a little impatient at times, but she says not to take it personally. I would love to take University Chorus again because of her.

Excellent class if you like music and like to sing. Anyone can join even if you're not a music major and you get to sing with an orchestra at the end of the semester! It was an awesome experience!!

Dr. Baker is obviously an incredible musician, but she's also incredibly moody. She chooses challenging pieces, but then spends half the rehearsal talking at the class. She chides students for being shy, but yells at them for making even minor mistakes. In other words, she's not a bad director, but her personality can be a bit hard to handle.

Dr. Baker is an outstanding musician and choral director. She is deserving of much respect. However, her need to constantly be the princess is irritating in the extreme. A great teacher, but she is unnecessarily unkind to the students.

Took her for University Chorus: strict, but good teacher. Music scores are interesting to learn and sing. The class warm ups do get boring and repetitious, but the final performance in the end is a lot of fun!

One of the worst teachers at CSUN. Rude, un organized, and runs her class like we are in the military. It is very easy to tell she does not want to be a teacher, but obviously can't make it as a musician in the real world.

I never talked back or text and in this teachers class at all... she is so rude this student who said that Dr. katherine is nice he or she was probably her pet who kissed ass.. don't take this class plzz do yourself a favor.. unless you are willing to put up with all the teacher's ****.. I managed to survive and got and A in her class and lab..

If you are a college student the subjects that you supposed to have are hard ones so do not expect easy work in a university. Dr. Baker is a professional who did not like that her student talk or send text in class. I think most of the ugly comments that I read came from those students she is nice and you learn a lot from her clas go for her

I have never had such a rude teacher. She interrupts presentations to tell you what your doing wrong. She will not explain homework. If you ask a question she insults you before giving a confusing answer. She is paranoid, she thinks someones going to attack her. I HATE this class and dread going. If you want to learn to hate music then take her.

A fine chorus director until the stress of the concert hit and everything fell to pieces. Everyone was upset that at the Univ. Chorus concert, UC only sang maybe 50% of the time, and our "run-thru" before the show lasted 2.5 hours. What a disaster. Had fun in rehearsal, though.

Calling her a teacher is a humongous overstatement. All she does is sit in her chair in front of the class and makes groups teach each other and occasionally tell you how to pronounce something. Worst excuse for a teacher ever.
