AVOID!!! As an english major, this class was very challenging. I've taken him 3 times now (not by choice) and every class he teaches revolves around global warming. He is a VERY hard grader. 2 5 page essays and a midterm and final which are 2 essays each. I strongly advise taking someone/something else.

His framework for the course is the existential crisis. He will go on and on all class on one point and it is useless. One of the worst courses I've taken. I got B's on everything and then I did poorly on my final paper and suddenly I dropped an entire letter grade. He told another student he was gonna fail cause he never took ENGL before.. avoid.

Dr. Zimmerman is the best professor I have ever had. He cares about his students and really wants them to learn. He sees his students as more than a grade on a piece of paper. He encourages them to learn to become better and more aware people, not just for a good grade on a test. TAKE TAKE TAKE :) Great guy.

I'm taking him right now as a student who usually receives high marks on my essays (usually A's and A-'s), but he's a little tougher on grading. I haven't gotten above a B+ yet. Overall though, he's a great guy and still one of my favorite professors. He really makes you think deeper than the contraints of your comfort zones. Textbooks are novels.

So, I've taken 2 classes with him... The only reason I took the second is bc I thought I was taking his brother's class (Paul). Lee is super nice and supportive and will help with anything and everything but unless you want to learn about the end of the world, don't take him. Coming from a Conservative Republican... He's as liberal as it gets.

The class got really dull, but Prof. Z himself is a nice guy. approachable and easy to talk to, appreciates students' comments and thoughts even if they are not aligned with what he is going for. always willing to help and is very helpful. compassionate to students. also stopped class to lead everyone in a prayer that I'd pass my math test :)

Don't bother taking this class if you actually want to learn about the books. We spent a good month learning about the end of the world and how we're all screwed because of global warming. I went in with high hopes and I am incredibly disappointed with the quality of this class.

Dr Zimmerman clarifies the two great questions ..... The question of good vs bad. I completed the course with four more answers than questions. Up to now I have a total of forty seven answers in my Hofstra career and thirty two questions remaining

A super, super man! His ability to synthesize modern American poetry with reality TV is truly brilliant. This is the first time I've actually had TV viewing as a class assignment. I love him!

If English isn't your major I would advice you to steer clear because he is the super nerdy english type. Very quirky and entertaining if you care enough to stay awake/off your laptop during his class. I loved it because no attendance policy, so I never went.. 1 month after the final & I'm still waiting on my grade though...

He is crazy and will constantly talk about the climate crisis until you are sick of hearing about it but overall a fun and relatively easy class. He is always willing to extend a deadline which becomes especially useful during finals.

This guy is so amazing that I've taken him twice; is massively entertaining and always willing to joke and engage with you. He cares about you, is willing to work with you to extend an essay deadline, and when he heard I enjoyed a book he had given us an excerpt of, he ordered it for me as a gift! The guy knows his stuff, but is modest about it.

Zimmerman is one of those professors that you either love or hate. In my case, I loved his methods of madness, fun attendance games, ways of getting off topic with still teaching, and his fairness in grading and papers. Let's you do rewrites IN SECRET. I worked pretty hard and got fair grade (B+) and would recommend to non-majors AND majors alike.

I LOVED ZIMMERMAN AND CLASS. I took him over the summer and I thought it would be dreadful, but after you get into what he is talking about you appreciate the world differently. He really loves when you speak in class which I love in a professor. He values opinion. To be safe in the essays put some things he spoke about in class! TAKE HIM

Zimmerman is really interesting and very funny. The actual class was alright, he's a tough grader and when it comes to poetry, especially in your papers, it's kind of his opinion or you're wrong. 2 papers, a test and a final.

Dr. Zimmerman is one great guy! His vast collection of WWII German memorabilia fits perfectly with his literature selection -- Bunker Man, The Eagle Has Landed, 12 Bombs Over Berlin, Eva: My Love, My Life.
