DON'T SKIP CLASS! I quickly realized that this is the hardest class I've ever taken. Exams are hard and content is very challenging. It is encouraged to get a tutor for his class. Dr. Xie cares deeply about all of his students and is very understanding; he gives extensions and is super friendly. But he knows his class is hard and he will push you.

AWFUL. The worst professor I've ever had. Seems to want his students to fail & threatened to ruin students' future careers. Brant is much much better I would recommend taking his class if you could.

Dr. Xie is my favorite chemistry professor so far. He is very thorough on all his lectures and he truly wants everyone to understand the material. His lecture formats are very easy to follow. The Organic chemistry labs are pretty fun and a lot easier than the general chemistry labs were. Definitely recommend Dr. Xie.

Really good lecture format. Open for questions. Do the sapling as exam questions are extremely similar to the hw. Last 2 exams are the worst so start studying early.

Great Professor and person, but you will need to work for the grade. He does care about his students and their success so don't be afraid to ask for help. In lab he is real fun because you have almost complete access to whatever you want. Just note that he will talk your ear off, so be careful talking about more personal matters.

One of the most caring and brilliant professors I have ever had. He did such an awesome job with teaching this course, and really if you didn't do well with all he offers you, that is on you. He doesn't shy away from any of the difficult topics and explains EVERY part of every unit thoroughly. Also very nice man, and certainly cares about students.

DON'T take him. He is condescending unless you are one of the few that understands him, his exams are nothing like the practice. He's irresponsible, doesn't give you enough time to get anything done. He thinks OChem is the only class that matters even though his students are likely in other high-level classes if they've gotten this far in chem.

Considering I barely passed general chemistry with a C, I passed organic chemistry with an A, and I did so easily at that. Xie explains things thoroughly, simply, and takes his time to do so. (Granted, he can be a little slow going through the material sometimes). His tests are fairly easy as is the homework. He drops your lowest exam score.

Xie is a much better in lab than lecture. He is very helpful and cares about his student's success. Pretty laid back about lab reports and grading, so it's overall a pretty easy lab.

Quite possibly the worst professor I have ever had. He is impossible to understand and makes absolutely no sense during lecture. His tests are not too bad, but if you want to do good you will have to teach the material too yourself. You could honestly skip lecture and just read the book and you would learn more. Do not take him.

Dr. Xie is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's perfect for ochem because it's difficult material, and he wants to make sure the whole class understands the concepts. He's extremely clear, but may spend a little too much time on minor concepts. From a student who struggled in gen chem, he did a great job helping me understand chemistry.

He's an exceptionally nice guy, but teaches you with all these easy problems only to over complicate them on the exam and will test you on things he's hardly covered. Ex: spending 2 weeks on arrow pushing only to expect chemical synthesis. I know valedictorians and honor students who failed or hardly passed his exams, but maybe he had a bad year..

Honestly, If you are a good student and you take his class you will fail, Nothing he lectures on is in the exam. His class is great, fun, knowledgeable but when the exam hits, it hits you hard, because he tests you on things that you have never seen before. Push students, but don't fail them for not understanding how you teach..
