Comment:

Dr. Allsen is amazing. He is extremely accomplished and very knowledgable. He even plays with the Madison Symphony in addition to being the Professor of Musicology here at UW-Whitewater. I would recommend anyone take a course wth him who has a chance. The department will have heavy hearts when Dr. Allsen announces his retirement!

If you show up to his lectures and take good notes, his class is a breeze. I wrote down a decent amount of notes and my studying only ever consisted of reading over them the night before and I got A's on every exam. It's interesting to some, not to others, but go and it's such an easy A. He's a very sweet and friendly guy. I always recommend him.

His class is actually really interesting, for the most part, if you come in with an open mind. If you come in all "ugh I hate art" and "this is so dumb, why do I have to take this" then you will likely not enjoy the class, but if you come in, ready to learn, you will learn a lot of cool things. He is super knowledgeabl about art and a great person

Allsen's lectures are very hard to sit through and much more if you are not a music or art major. With that, though, you can skip class and still do very well if you attend the events you need to outside of class and study the review a few days before the exam.

Overall he is a pretty good professor. He loves what he does but for a person that doesn't love theater and the arts this class is extremely boring and hard to attend.

Dr. Allsen is very passionate about the arts and that made class a lot more interesting. His class actually talks about fun art and music, easy to pay attention and even have fun in (gasp). Tests are an easy A if you show up to class, even if you dont, everything is online. Always has 5 or more EC questions on the exam for fun. Would take again

Dr. Allsen is hilarious and super easy to talk to. He's a really fun guy who knows his stuff, and his class is so interesting. MWP, however, is a tough class. Be prepared to study. But Allsen is willing to help as much as he can.

Don't be fooled by the long syllabus he gives out, his class is not all that demanding. The homework should not take you more than 30 minutes of writing, and your only obligation is to go see some shows. Tests are a breeze if you come to class every day. Sometimes lectures can drag on a bit, but just pay attention to the slides and you'll pass.

Easily my favorite professor so far. Allsen is an excellent teacher, very funny, understanding, and helpful. His tests may be harder than others, but as long as you go to class, you'll have no problem getting an A.

Great teacher. Spent a lot of time in class listening to music clips and watching cool documentaries. Assignments were all super easy and you get 100% for basically participating. Also he was very lenient for grading tests and no attendance taken!

He is very nice and easy to talk too. He loves the arts and you can tell. If you come to class, and follow notes/what he says you'll pass the exams no problem. If you just use the note outline online you won't get all the information from in class and probably won't get EC.

He's a nice guy. I've had some problems and he helped me out. The lectures can get boring, but c'mon, it's WOTA. To the point-if you show up and do the little amount of work you have-you'll get a great grade. The less you show up, the less chances of extra credit you'll get and the worse you will do on your exams.

I highly recommend Prof. Allsen. He knows everything about the arts. Lectures can be interesting. Homework is short, attend a few shows. Scantron exams, should attend class if you want to get a C or better on exams. Easy to approach if you have questions. No textbook only powepoints and what he puts on D2L to study from.

Comment:

Professor Allsen is one of the best professors at UW Whitewater. He's so kind and easy to work with. He genuinely wants you to succeed in his classes. Is willing to work with students to help them understand the topic better. He's very funny and likeable in a cheesy, dad way. Nonetheless, he is wonderful!

His lectures are pretty boring, especially on weird topics. He puts all of his Power Points online, so if you fall asleep all the material is online. However, I can't get more than a C on his test, even though I knew all the material. He gives out extra credit. Kind of confusing. Going to events suck but you have to do it for all wota classes.

He's really funny and pretty nice. He really know what he's talking about and has a genuine interest in the topics. He's very courteous and will help you whenever you need it. He won't get mad when people show up late and makes sure everyone keeps up.

He's really nice, but this class just bored me to tears. Although it is a mandatory class, I do recommend taking him because I thought it was super effortless. Take notes in class and study for the exams and you'll easily pass. As for the 4 event reviews you have to write, they're 400 words total so they weren't hard either.

No text book, but he takes the class way too seriously for a gened, Exams are hard but if you study you should do fine. Only a couple of assignments throughout the class, All power points online so you don't have to go as long as you look over the notes for the exams

This isn't pertaining to the class, but to Dr. Allsen in genereal. He's really helpful if you have questions about any of your classes or other music professors. He helped me get join and straighten out my classes for my two majors, making it really easy. I'm so glad he's chair of the music department.

Comment:

Decent professor, only 4 exams which are around 50 questions long, they are pretty easy if you attend class somewhat regularly and if you study. Around 6 assignments throughout the semester that are very easy and also graded easily. Class is not mandatory, and he only lectures the whole time but its helpful if you go to class.
