Genuinely a nice guy but doesn't teach effectively. Clearly knows his stuff but the assignments are way too hard for an Intro to Java class. The concepts themselves are not that difficult to pick up but Homework's and Tests questions are too specific wordy and confusing for a beginner. Ended with a grade higher than I deserved which I can respect.

He is more easygoing and kinder in grading than Langsam. He does not always look at the code for the HW. Maybe its bcuz I took him summer online and he had no time to look at all the students code. I got a bad grade on final and good grade everywhere else and got a grade I feel I deserved. whereas other profs. would of gave me a C.

He constantly rants about his job. His classes are awfully boring. His notes and handwriting are horrible. His tests and homework assignments are hard to follow. For someone that knows programming, I was often very confused by what he was asking. For a class that should be easy he made it more difficult then it needed to be. I regret taking him.

Very nice. Explains code and logic rather than reading a Powerpoint. This class is hard so get ready to study not because hes hard, but the class itself is hard. Reading the textbook is not mandatory but he gives you a sheet of where each topic is covered in the textbook if you need to review the topics at home. Total of 6 hw assignments.

Teaches the ideas instead of the actual code which can be beneficial and detrimental to your understanding. He accepts assignments in whatever programming language you feel comfortable with because of this. In order to do well, you NEED to research the specifics for your preferred language. Curves grades.

if you can avoid him is good for you and your GPA. you will learn 10% of the material in the class. Lazy ass professor i have ever seen in my life and wouldn't teach you. don't waste money , he does not understand java. he will not explain the homework and he does not write a single line of code in class.

If you haven't done programming before, you will need to come to class to learn and do well. However, the professor is lenient. He basically tells you the questions ( exact number, and the topics) before the test. Gives you a huge curve at the end, and is genuinely a nice person. 7 programs all given in the start and you can ask for help anytime.

Pros: He is a nice guy Cons: Extremely tough grader, he thinks you are born with the knowledge of data structure and it is supposed to come naturally, he is way to old to be teaching and because of this his thoughts are all over the place, exams are HARD!! Usually 50 percent of his students fail. If you are ready to fail Data Struc., take him!

He is a very nice guy, he isnt very clear and expects students to understand the material the moment he finishes explaining it. Very difficult class, but nice guy. He dismisses the class about an hour early every time.

The class is not easy, but if you care and work for it you can definitely do well. Lots of practice in class, and very open to questions. (in class or after) Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't come, don't expect to understand the material. Definitely would take again. Great professor very nice and very helpful.

in the beginning of the semester he would come 30 min late, talk off topic half the class and then leave 30-45min early. this guy is super lazy, nice guy. but this prof is not for those who actually want to learn.

A fairly nice guy but man can he not teach. Maybe he's better in the upper courses but in the intro class he barely teaches. He rambles on the topic to explain, then throws problems at you to try and have you learn that way. Also, there's no in class practice so tough luck if you hit a roadblock. My advice if you get him is to go to tutoring

The only good thing about this guy is that he lets you hand in homework any time before the final. Does not do a review before tests; he just tells you the format of the test. He's horrible.

Overall, he gets the job done teaching data structures. I took him for the summer. You will learn all the essentials. His notes alone are enough to study for an exam. Fair grader. You have to do Assignments as well. Participation and attendance is not necessary, but you need his notes. I would take him again because I didn't find any problems.

Professor lowenthale is a down to earth professor and tells you exactly what you need to study to the letter, and only 6 programs for homework for the entire semester. A midterm and a final. Homework 25%, midterm 35% and final 40% all easy if you just study the chapters of the book exactly and do the problems at the end of each chapter

One of the best professors in the CIS Department hands down. I'm not gonna say he's an easy professor, but if you work hard..you'll definitely get a good grade. I took him for CISC 3110 & 3130 and would recommend him to any CIS Student.
