I dont think there is enough space to share how difficult she actually makes the class. From what I see the material COULD be easy but shes so unorganized, rude, condescending, and scattered making learning the material very difficult. DO NOT take her especially online. she doesn't know how to use the computer and won't even attempt to learn. 0/10

Comment:

She is a bit old and tends to forget or go off-topic. Phonetics is a hard class so you have to show up to class and actually participate and practice at home. She's a good professor if you're someone who is chill and can self teach. If you need a professor who will be on top of their game and provide extra help, I wouldn't recommend her.

She's extremely unorganized, and forgetful. she's not open to being corrected. do not take her class she's not helpful. she's unclear and terrible at explaining things. her attitude is disgusting and the department should definitely remove her.

I dont recommend any one take her. Shes an awful teacher. Yes she knows her material, but is so bad at teaching it. She also is a very harsh grader! Any little mistake she takes points off. She also takes 20 min taking attendance which wastes class time. The department really needs to consider removing her from teaching this course.

Okay I havent gotten my grade for the class so Im going to be fair. I took her for Phonetics. I struggled in the class because this is a class that has to be taught. She seems really passionate about Phonetics but shouldnt be teaching. DONT take her if your someone that needs to be taught, more for students who can learn on their own.

The professor is very old school and goes off topic. I took her for phonetics. The quizzes, tests, and project are all super easy. It is an easy class for not knowing or learning anything over the course of the semester.

While this course is study intensive, she didn't do much to help the students. She was disorganized, unclear, and forgetful. She constantly went off topic so it was hard to focus on the material. This class was an all around nightmare from the very beginning until the final.

Dr. Schaeffer is the most scattered, unclear, paranoid and rude professor in the speech department. Unfortunately she is also the go to person to fill a class the department doesn't have an actual instructor for. Thus she ends up teaching topics she has no clue hot to teach.

Dr. Schaeffer can be initimidating and condescending at times, but she can also be extremely helpful. I recommend that you be proactive when taking her class. Don't miss class, supplement her lessons with the book and online resources, and take the best notes you ever have in your life!

Scary woman! She knows a lot, but that doesn't excuse her rudeness and obvious favoritism of students. She has behavioral standards for her students(as one should) but seems to think she is above them. I received A's in all the graded sections of the course, yet she reduced my grade to an A- I'm not her favorite-she wouldn't give me a better reason

she knows her stuff, but is a bit scattered. you have to basically regurgitate all the stuff back to her exactly as she taught it. be as specific as possible. when you get to know her, she's very nice, but participate a lot or else she'll call on you randomly and put you on the spot.
