He gets a 5 out of 5 for using a monocle and carrying his papers in a plastic grocery bag. Dude is boss. But seriously though, the material is not bad, could be harder with a different prof. Consider a different major if you found this class too tough, you'll rip your hair out when you take 430 with Szeto. 330 is child's play compared to 430.

Gives off the attitude that he doesn't care about his students, and he seems to be over teaching. His lectures are all over the place and he barely does any concrete examples with numbers. If you actually understand the homework and don't just copy it from Chegg, you'll be fine. The material can build up and sneak up on you if you're not careful

Hard class, even though he gives similar practice problems to what you will see on the tests you don't get any solutions to check your work. Confusing lectures that are all over the place. I personally am a COMPE major so I didn't find the subject material very interesting. To all you EE majors GL this will be your life.

Prof Kolen is the epitome of a real professor. He knows his stuff and explains things in a way any civil engr would comprehend. If you understand the HW's, and I MEAN UNDERSTAND THEM, the tests and projects should be cake. I got an A and honestly I would have given a B for my performance. 4 midterms, relatively easy. Just watch out for the test 2.

I don't know how this idiot is still teaching! If you want to take a class and learn absolutely nothing useful, this is what you want, otherwise it's a horrible experience. If you like vector calculus (like me), it should be easy but completely pointless. If you aren't good at it, prepare to suffer. He is unenthusiastic and boring.

One of the worst teachers I have ever had the misfortune to suffer through. He is dull, lazy, and makes reduces a fun subject to memorization of homework problems. You will learn nothing in this class. People like him (and the ones who love him) make SDSU seem like a joke university. Stay away at all costs.

Professor Kolen was straight forward, easy to understand and an easy grader. Do all the homework. Although, he will take it late finish it early, some of the test questions are homework problems with numbers changed! Attend the last day of class and take notes 20% of my final was based on the last 10min of class!

This class is very interesting. If you liked physics electricity and magnetism...this is part two. Kolen is funny which keeps you awake during lectures. Challenging class but worth it.

Great teacher, but lectures a little fuzzy; he doesn't read the book for you, he just surveys it, your responsible for your own reading. The tests are exactly like the homework. His grading is fair, but no curve. If you read the book like he tells you, do your homework when your supposed to, your OK. One of the better SDSU EE prof's.

Kolen is a decent teacher, but is obviously not enthusiastic about this course. Other than that, his tests are predictable, his SPICE assignments are doable, and there is a solution guide for the homework that'll point you in the right direction.

Grading: 8 HW (10%), 3 PSPICE (10% each), 2 Midterms (15% each), Final (30%). Some love him, some hate him, I didn't like him. His weird personality overtakes his lectures at times so it's hard to learn. The book is crap. I am a COMPE, not a EE, so good luck to those taking this and future courses that follow after. Study old exams!

I really enjoyed this class and feel like I learned a lot. Prof. Kolen focuses the material toward the pragmatic side and is a bit eccentric - but I would recommend his class and will take more of his classes if I can. Tests are very straightforward.

You must attend and do the homework. I passed only because the class avg on the tests were in the low 40s. very hard subject matter. kolen even says the book is useless yet you have to buy it "not cheap". best advice is to get study groups

He may know his stuff, but he is rude to students who ask questions and aren't satisfied with a "turn the crank" approach. grading was harsh because he won't give you points unless you do the work EXACTLY like he tells you in class. very unprofessional outside of class too. no idea about your final grade until the report card.

Go to class every day, do the HW, and finish all the PSPICE. Exams are tough, so don't fall behind. And go to class early because he always starts writing 5 mins before class.
