Dr. Shand is a very good physics professor but he moves kinda fast through the material. i recommend you take this course if you have prior knowledge but if you know nothing about physics he moves much faster than the other professors. he explains the material very good and there is a lot of homework and labs that will cushion your overall grade.

Difficult subject matter but taught extremely well and both assignments and tests are excellent reflections of the material you need to know. Available pretty much all the time and will help with assignments and answer any questions you have. Has old exams on eLearning, posts lecture notes, records in class lectures, posts solutions each week.

Comment:

Amazing professor, difficult class. He does whatever he can to make sure that you can access notes and are successful in his class (records lectures, practice exams,etc). Dr. Shand makes class difficult, but for good reason, so that you WILL learn. Probably the hardest class I have ever taken, he is awesome and willing to help at all times.

Best professor I have ever had. He was always willing to help students outside of class. He disseminated his personal lecture notes to the class so that we could study with them and they were text book quality. His lectures are well planned.

Excellent Professor. Willing to help any time. Very organized and explains concepts well. Tests are fair. I'm not the biggest fan of physics, but with Shand I didn't mind it at all!

Dr. Shand is an absolutely fantastic professor. You will be challenged, but you WILL understand the materials. If you are looking for an easy grade, stay away, but if you want knowledge and understanding of physics, I wouldn't recommend anyone else.

Dr. Shand is a great professor! He expects a lot from his students, but also equips them to be able to handle it. Despite this class taking up more than twice the amount of time of all my other classes combined this semester, it was by far my favorite class too. He is very helpful with homework and projects, if you ask him for help.

Very funny and easy-going teacher. Reading quizzes before each lecture, but they are straight from the book. Very helpful outside of class as well. I highly recommend taking his class

Shand is one of my favorite professors at UNI. He keeps class interesting and will have you cracking up each lecture. His tests are reasonable, as long as you attend the lectures and understand the homework problems. He made me want to come to physics class! He's a great teacher....take him if you can.

Shand is a nice guy, funny in lectures. He's very clear about what he expects you to know. Grading can be a little nit-picky, but overall the grading was fair. If you do the homework and really understand those problems, you can almost ace his exams.

If you're not majoring in physics don't take Dr. Shand. That being said, I've had him for physics I,II,III, and modern, & he's my advisor he is an excellent teacher. A lot of homework and hard tests, but hey its physics its not supposed to be easy. He is very helpful and wants students to understand. If you 're serious about physics take Dr. Shand.

Shand's classes are really hard, but it's physics, its not supposed to be easy, and you really learn the material if you try. He's very approachable and extremely helpful. If you take his class DON'T slack off, you'll regret it. But homework and test are hard and you will have to spend a lot of time on it. Good teacher though.

I think he's just too smart for his own good. So he's not a very good teacher. The class by itself is hard and without a teacher who can explain things well isn't helping. He's not bad he just needs to work on relating to people
