Comment:

Penny Jolly is my favorite professor at Skidmore. She's absolutey brilliant, fascinating, helpful, available, professional, inspirational, and easily one of the top people in her field. I've taken 3 classes with her which have been both challenging and fun and informative. She's a gem.

Comment:

She is a tough grader, but she is very helpful. Visit her office hours to discuss your paper even if you don't think you need it-you will leave with new insights. She has high expectations, but they are not ridiculous. If you communciate wtih her, she is understanding. A very nice woman with a brilliant mind-she knows what she is talking about.

She assigned a paper with option of a rough draft for review due after long weekend. That weekend, I was in a severe car wreck (hydroplaned donuts and rolled car 4 times, suspended by my seatbelt from the roof.) bad whiplash; asked extra day: "if I give you an extension, I have to give everyone an extension." Never felt so invalidated in my life.

Penny Jolly is tough. She's a very tough grader. Make sure you know how to write a paper pre-taking her classes. She likes lecture based classes. she's pretty condescending when answering student questions. Not very understanding/friendly. A smart lady who knows her stuff and is well published. You'll learn stuff, just be prepare to feel dumb

Comment:

Professor Jolly is the reason I majored in art history. I took History of Western Art to fulfill a fine arts minor, and ended up feeling so intrigued and challenged by the material that I spent my last year and half taking purely art history courses, and as many with Professor Jolly as I could. She is one of the best professors at Skidmore.

Comment:

The most difficult, demanding professor I have had ever, surpassing even my High School English teacher who didn't give A's on principle. However, she is also one of the BEST professors I have ever had: she makes the material interesting, and knows her subject beyond anything imagineable. I highly recommend her, but be warned: HIGH EXPECTATIONS.

(Survey of Western)Has high expectations but you will learn from here. It's not that the D on your midterm means you know nothing, it's that she's EXTREMELY picky. She's helpful, kind, and easy to learn from, but she is a tough grader. stick with it and you'll learn something.

One of the most obnoxious professors I have ever had. Unappreciative of humans and so incredibly pompous that she needs to tone it down...a lot. She picks her favorites, and if you are not one - she belittles you like no other. Overall horrible teacher.

Jolly knows her**** and she's a very nice, warm person. however, she is EXTREMELY condescending. I learned a lot from her but I'm not sure if I would want to have her again. She's a good discussion leader but not the best lecture. Overall, she's decent.

No matter how much you complain about her, she really is a great teacher. Knows exactly what she's talking about and how to present her thoughts. Hard grader and doesn't really care for your opinion on things, but overall a good class.
