Comment:

She is actually a great professor, and I am always amazed at how much a have learned. Still, this class is not for people that aren't science/bio people and probably should be a higher level. The quizzes are easy and the tests aren't that hard but she grades them so tough that it makes it hard to get a decent grade.

i would have gotten an A because the things we learned are so easy but kinsman took off points literally for no reason. she also doesn't know how to use youtube so she shows the same bug videos over and over and over and over.

Comment:

Kinsman is one of the most "interesting" professors I've had at bates to say the least. From her bizarre imitations of insects, to her corrupt and anal retentive grading policy, there is nothing to enjoy about this class. At one point, she laid down on the ground in the bio lab to "demonstrate" a point about dragonflies. Crazy woman....

STAY AWAY.. SHE IS EVIl. Kinsman picks a couple of favorites and treats the rest of class in a condescending and demeaning way. if you think you did well on the first exam, don't be surprized if you get a 60 because of your spelling and work choice. Bates keeps her so the school does not get grade inflation.

There are some hoops you have to jump through. Sharon's Ecology class is one of them. I'm not sure how she managed to get a PhD, as teaching is not her strength. She was just going through the motions.

I had no intention of taking this class but eventually got stuck with it. Sharon, however, made all the difference. She is an amazing teacher because she is passionate about her studies, has a great sense of humor, and wants her students to do well. She also teaches in a great way; many video clips, lays out exactly what will be on the tests.

Comment:

I loved Sharon and her teaching method. She illustrated many of the lectures with interesting films, and she brought life into a subect (entymology) that I originally had no interest in whatsoever. Very clear during lecture, a bit nit-picky on tests, but study properly and you'll be fine.

This class was by far the worst class I have ever taken in my entire life. She was very passionate about the subject, but shattered students' interest by being ridiculously anal when grading tests. She even scaled down our test grades one time, so my score of 83 was a C. If evil had a name it would be Sharon Kinsman.

This woman is pure evil. In my experience she is the most pedantic, confusing, and worthless professor at Bates. I am still clueless as to why this woman has tenure (not only is she a terrible teacher, but she hasn't been engaged in meaningful research for years). Stay away at all costs!!!

This class is a good reason to not major in biology. It is poorly taught, worthless after college, and very difficult. Kinsman is a horrible professor who plays favorites with students and who nitpicks points.
