His class is all lecture, no visual aids or anything. I had such a hard time paying attention. He quizzes you on almost every single reading he assigns. But those quizzes do help your grade in the end. He wants answers in class and on the tests exactly how he words it, or you are basically wrong. He is rude and condescending. Avoid him if you can.

This was the worst class I have ever taken. I regret not dropping it when I could. The ENTIRE class is lectures, so if you don't get the right info, you're screwed. He is the toughest grader and if you don't say things the exact way he expects, he doesn't give you any points. Do not take.

A dean at the university told me not to take this class (major red flag) because of his harsh grading and teaching style. I only went to the first few classes before dropping the class for good. He would call on me, & when I didn't know the answer he made faces. 2 other girls also dropped the class with me. Advice, take thompson. I got a B with him

He knows his stuff and the class can be interesting. His tests may seem easy but he is a very tough grader. He wants exact wording on his tests and does not accept anything else. The readings he assigns are hard reads and really long. Most of class is him lecturing you to death and when he writes on the board it's pretty much illegible.

If you do not read you will not pass. Very rude and condescending. There is no room to disagree with his opinion because his opinion is FACT. Thinks its the 50s.

Very sweet guy! I found his class to be extremely easy and realized that the only people who didn't do well were the ones who weren't paying attention. His lectures can get boring at times but most of it is common sense. He doesn't have a textbook so exams are lectured based. Just take notes and you'll do fine. He's very understanding and funny.

Where he may seem interesting at first,DO NOT TAKE HIM. He assigns a huge amount of readings for homework, doesn't review before tests, and will lecture you to sleep. Barely writes on the board, and the only thing you have to study from is your notes, which can be hard to write when he's only talking the whole time.

Really not that bad of a guy/class. Some days, I dreaded class and other days, I really loved it. He knows what he's talking about, too. Make sure you pay attention, take notes, do the readings (there are extra credit quizzes based off them) and show up to class and you'll be fine. Go to SI, too. It'll help for exams.

Pay attention and take notes, you will do fine. No textbook, just short readings. Actually read them though, they are on the test. GO TO SI! i cant stress that enough. He tells SI tutor what to go over and that material is on the test! he will call on you so be ready! Actually an interesting class.

He is brilliant and his class is amazing! As a science major, I never thought that I would enjoy a social science, but i did. Dr. Butsch is very interesting and it is easy to pay attention. Make sure you go to class, and read is readings, as well, go to his office hours.

Seems intimidating but he really wants his students to do well. All you have to do is pay attention, take good notes, and do the readings (which are very short) and you will get an A. Go to SI! No papers or projects, no textbook. Style is lecture and there are no powerpoints.

Very intelligent professor. Seems strict, but stick with him. He wants his students to do well. Take good notes, pay attention, do the readings and go to SI sessions! If you can do that, you can definitely succeed! There's only 3 exams - no paper, no homework except VERY short readings. No textbook.

He gives 3 test, 1 being the final. His class is difficult if you don't go to class. make sure you do the readings or he will call on you in class. He can sometimes be unreasonable and you need to take good notes on exactly what he says, if not, you don't get credit for on the test. And go to SI sessions! He's boring sometimes but stay awake.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Hes boring and will have you falling asleep. You can't be 1 second late, use the bathroom, or leave early. His class is very hard to pass. Halfway into the semester 1/2 the class will drop the course. But if you take good notes, attend EVERY class, pass the exams, & drink a redbull before class to stay awake, you MIGHT pass.

If you don't take good notes and show up to every class, you likely will get a low grade or flat out fail. I agree with the person who said he's fairly nice, however, he can be REALLY grouchy and will put people on the spot if the class doesn't do the readings. He didn't follow the syllabus and it really messed our class up. I do not recommend him.

There is just so much to say about this guy. Honestly, he's a fairly nice guy, but so super strict. You're not allowed to be even 30 seconds late or he wont let you in the room! You need to take great notes in order to pass. He treats everyone like they should already know everything, and he gets mad way to easily. I suggest dont take this class.

Butsch was the worst professor I ever had in college. If you are a Republican, do NOT take this class. He is a Communistic liberal that needs to learn how to teach the facts and not the opinions. MY opinion: get another professor because listening to him insult the Republican party and share his communist views are completely unnecessary.
